Magénta or Magènta?[edit]
Hallo, the "e" in Magenta is closed and long, not short and open, you can ask anybody who lives in the Lombardy. Regional Italian dictates that. A compromise (I think you mentioned that) would be to put both pronunciations in: the Central-Southern Italian one and the local, Northern Italian one. I would never dream of asking the English to pronounce place names in standard American English. Regards, --Mondschein English (talk) 23:42, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
- The rule is to follow DOP and DiPI (which were, by chance, written by Northern Italian linguists). Local pronunciation could be give after the Standard Italian one (remember also that in IPA transcriptions [:] should not be used instead of [ː]).
