Untitled[edit]

I removed comments made via anonymous IP today, about other Magheras (see history), including 'the Maghera Caves' in DOnegal. Should there be a disam. page called 'Maghera', linking to others (including, Maghera, Co Londonderry)? Or, should the current one stay as-is, with a line to the effect of 'For other Magheras, click here'?

Maghera is a town in South Derry.

The reason it is classed as a "large village" is because it because of it's population at the last census (2001) was 3,711. The reason we use the term "County Londonderry" is because unlike the town, historically there was not a preceding County Derry: it was established in 1613 by combining the former County of Coleraine with small parts of Counties Antrim, Donegal, and Tyrone at the behest of the London companies. « Keith » 22:53, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Maghera was the birth place of the noted theologian Dr Henry Cooke. A statue of Cooke called the "Black Man" (due to its former colour, when covered in soot) stands outside Royal Belfast Academical Institution in Belfast. "

Rev. Dr. Henry Cook was born at the Grillagh in the townlands of Upperlands not Maghera, also Charles Thompson's Birthplace is in Upperlands at His home which is a tourist attraction in the area, this is listed in Wallace Clark's History of Upperlands and also accepted as fact by his decendants as noted in their preface to Wallace's book and by their vists to Upperlands. It is also noted that Upperlands was his birthplace on the Village's Welcome board in the centre of the village.

Rivers section[edit]

This section has been tagged {{Unreferenced section}} since July 2022. Unless anyone intends to add some references I will be deleting it, and not only because it appears to have been written by someone with only the faintest acquaintance with the punctuation and grammar of the English language.
