Former players[edit]

Added Dave Sadler and Bobby Houghton to the list of former players. This seems a very well put together article. Well done.twitter 11:02, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Relocation relocation[edit]

The article currently states "A consortium from the North East wanted to buy the club, move it to Tyneside and rename it 'Newcastle Blue Star'; that was about as good as the offers would get." While I do recall talk of moving the club to Newcastle, I don't remember any suggestion of changing the name to Newcastle Blue Star - apart from anything else, a club called Newcastle Blue Star already exists and has done for decades. I have a hazy recollection of mention of a potential name change to "Newcastle Browns", but I can't remember if that was a serious suggestion or a joke - can anyone recall..........? Home behind Allington Baptist Church?[edit]

While I at the time lived just round the corner from where the text implies the team played in the 1993-94 season, I confess I didn't know they played there! For suitable land within the area though, we are limited to either the Brunswick House school fields, the land behind the Mormon temple or to the side of Buckland road - all of which have more accurate location descriptions than at present surely? Particularly as Allington Baptist Church was not formed until December 1993 (from memory) and initially met in a doctors' surgery on the Tonbridge Road. At least at the start of the season (and I think the end of the season), the building they now use was a Kingdom Hall for the local Jehovah's Witnesses. Split[edit]

It seems to me that the current club is distinct from the former one, so a new article would be required entitled Maidstone United F.C. (1897). Dancarney (talk) 15:32, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the issue of the continuity between the "old" and "new" clubs is a bit blurry. I have no reliable sources to hand to back this up but I believe the club retained its membership of the FA even after dropping out of the Football League, fielding only youth teams until such time as an adult team could be re-formed, and therefore it may technically be regarded as the same club....maybe..... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 15:40, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW, the history page on the club's official site starts from 1992, saying "Maidstone United reformed in 1992 following the demise of the Football League side." Is reforming indicative of continuity? Kevin McE (talk) 19:19, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: Several clubs have disbanded and reformed throughout the history of English football. Some of them have been split (e.g. Aldershot F.C./Aldershot Town F.C. and Halifax Town F.C./F.C. Halifax Town), while others have not been split (e.g. Newport County, Gateshead, Nuneaton Borough), so clearly there is no precedent on Wikipedia in cases like this. FWIW, I personally believe such splits are unnecessary, because while the reformed teams may be new entities from a legal perspective, they are de facto a continuation of the same clubs in the eyes of the supporters. --Badmotorfinger (talk) 17:49, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Noted players" section[edit]

Currently this is a mish-mash of those who've played for the current incarnation of the club and those who played for the original incarnation. Bradley Sandemann is an example of someone who has played for both incarnations of the club (most of the contentious ones played in the Kent County League thus the lack of details).[reply]

When did this club become Maidstone United?[edit]

This article claims the club changed its name to Maidstone United in 1995. However, the article on the original Maidstone United claims that this club ('new' Maidstone United formerly Maidstone Invicta) was known as Maidstone Invicta until 1994. It would seem to be case of whether the change was in 1994 or in 1995 if it did not literally happen on New Year 1994/5. However, Press Reader website is giving the Kent Messenger as saying Invicta became United in 1997. I would be inclined to go by a local source as that would seem to be contemporaneous and accurate (unless Press Reader has made an error in transcription of the date). aspaa (talk) 23:48, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
