Release date[edit]

There are many webpages posted on July 14th talking about the release of the song. But all of the links to the song itself credit the release as July 15th.

Oppose per Make Me (Janet Jackson song) and Make Me (novel). The ellipsis isn't enough to meet SMALLDETAILS, imo. The current set-up also benefits readers using the drop-down menu in the search bar, as they know exactly what article they're arriving at. Comment: is the WP:COMMONNAME of this song "Make Me" or "Make Me..."? If it's "Make Me" then move this to Make Me (Britney Spears song). If not, move to the proposed new title as readers looking for other topics wouldn't be typing the ellipsis. SSTflyer 16:00, 6 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose, but move to Make Me ... (Britney Spears song), per MOS:ELLIPSIS ("Me" in this construction is a complete word, not a truncation of a longer word like "Merry", so the ellipsis should not be fused to the word, wither the cover art spaces it or not). We've already, many times, had the discussion of whether tiny dots are enough to satisfy WP:SMALLDETAILS (see Gangsta (manga) formerly at Gangsta.), and the answer is no. The main reason is they are too easily mistaken by readers and editors alike as syntactic punctuation of the surrounding material, and drive-by editors not paying attention are even apt to "fix" them as typos. A further consideration is that not even all music journalism sources treat this title as "Make Me..." (or "Make Me ...") but often renders it as "Make Me", and anyone familiar with the song from radio airplay, but neither owning the album nor reading Rolling Stone is even likely to suspect that it ends with "...". 'Make me' has never been a #6 in Spain[edit]

The song hasn't even charted here in Spain. Make Me... (Britney Spears song) → Make Me (Britney Spears song) – The ellipsis is inconsistent. Based solely on the titles of Make Me... (Britney Spears song)#References, the ellipsis is used 21/107 times, and some of those links are Spears-related (YouTube, iTunes, Tidal). Oppose. I disagree. There is an inconsistent usage, but I don't believe that it's enough to warrant a move to simply "Make Me". There is a inconsistent usage of "...Baby One More Time" and "Baby One More Time" as well. Both songs contain the ellipsis due to the fact that they were shortened from their original names (eg "Make Me Ooh" and "Hit Me Baby One More Time"). I don't think the references are even entirely correct in their usage because for example, this reference claims the title is using "Make Me", but when you go to the actual website it uses Make Me.... I don't see a reason to move the article when the song is officially titled "Make Me..." and used that way in numerous sources, despite the fact that some may not use it for simplicity. — Status (talk · contribs) 05:20, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Looking at more recent sources that mention the song/are about the song, the ellipsis are included by Forbes, Idolator, Rolling Stone, to list a few. It is also worth nothing that despite the fact that Billboard has referred to it as "Make Me" in their articles, the official chart entry is listed as Make Me... — Status (talk · contribs) 05:29, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
