Wax Vs. Plastic[edit]

Can we please avoid any further confusing edits in ref to the plastic seal? The seal is red plastic and meant to resemble dipped wax. It is not wax. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnGaltJr (talk • contribs) 09:04, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just becuase they are hand dipping it does not mean it is wax. I saw a program on Food Network where they said it was a plastic, but I don't have the source well enough to add it to the article. -Verdatum (talk) 14:22, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The wax article seems to allow for the possibility that a material can be both "wax" and "plastic" at the same time. I believe the company refers to it as wax, and there seems to be no indication that it is not wax (especially when allowing for the possibility that it is also plastic). —BarrelProof (talk) 22:51, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've been wondering about this since the first time I handled a bottle of Maker's Mark. The "wax" dripping from the top down the neck of the bottle certainly does not feel/bend/look like any wax I'm familiar with. It certainly does feel/bend/look like some form of polyethylene plastic and the WP article linked in the comment above does refer to polyethylene-based wax. Anybody able to confirm? It is wax. You can confirm it yourselves with a cigarette lighter and a bottle. Just burn a little bit of it. It smells like wax burning not plastic. Owners[edit]

The Bickett’s bought the distillery from the Burks and then later it was sold. I never hear about the Bickett’s owning this unless you take the tour. I have a old painting of the house from when my relatives owned this place just little disappointed I can’t find why the name stayed Burks. Paul bickett (talk) 23:06, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Green wax topped bottles in the '70s[edit]

In the mid 1970s Makers Mark produced a 100 Proof variety that had green wax instead of the traditional red . Reading the history on Wikipedia I found no mention of it , although there was mention of 100 Proof Plus being specially produced in the 21st century . 174.85.208.33 (talk) 09:55, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
