There were many different responses to the "Painful Cake" but I feel that this article from Ebony ( http://www.ebony.com/news-views/the-swedish-ministry-art-nightmare )reflects well on the purpose for the creation of this piece of art. I believe that for this article it is important to look into the historical background of the exploitation of the black bodies throughout American history.
