References and Citations are crucial for wikipedia, and so these must be added as the article is expanded, including the addition of more "in-line" citations. (See WP:References, WP:V, and WP:CITE for guidance.)

Roman Times[edit]

While doing research for my website on Malpas I found a reference in an old local history book in Chester public library, to the "Malpas Tabula" (if my memory serves me well) which was a letter for the discharge of a Roman legionnaire written on copper plate and found in field south of Malpas supposedly alongside the path of the old Roman road. A drawing was shown with a note that the tabula now resides in the British Museum. Anybody have any more information on this? Barfbagger 15:10, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be some confusion in the sources regarding the diploma. this site tells us that the diploma was found in another malpas in glamorganshire, whilst this other site (with some great photographs of the document) refers to a malpas 50miles south of liverpool - ie. in cheshire. --Mcginnly | Natter 10:56, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A Possible project (or sub-project) for Cheshire[edit]

I think a project or a sub-project (within the UK geography project) dealing with the whole of Cheshire would be a good idea. I have taken as a precedent the project about Cornwall, which any project dealing with Cheshire could hope to aspire to, since this project has constructed Featured Articles about Cornwall-related things. So, I've listed a proposed project concerning Cheshire on Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals. I think it can easily co-exist with Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography. I would not want to diminish or withdraw from this other project. If you are interested in contributing to this proposed project, please add your name to list at the appropriate place. If you think it might be better placed as a sub-project of the existing UK Geography Project, please say so on that project's talk page, here, and let us discuss it. Many thanks. Rework of opening[edit]

Article needs work. Easy: remove some of the sections. No need to have a section "Roman" with one sentence. Not-too-difficult: change opening intro para. Population, place, current and historical significance. Name here is confusing ... why would any village be called "bad passage"? Piano non troppo (talk) 13:15, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Talking of reworking opening, the name actually comes from Latin - it is a combination of the words malus (meaning bad, evil or wicked) and passus (possibly pass, more literally translated as pace, step - mille passus would have meant a mile) - so 'bad pass' or possible 'evil paces' - again relating to the depenbech,which would have been a hell of a climb for a Roman legionary marching to Chester! Plague of 1625[edit]

According to this blog post (http://www.futilitycloset.com/2012/03/03/a-last-courtesy/) Peter Laslett, in his 1965 book The World We Have Lost, claims that during the plague of 1625 everyone in Malpas died. That is surely exagerration, not to be accepted too readily without other evidence. If all inhabitants had died, there would be need for some repopulation organised from outside. Large numbers of deaths may have been recorded in parish registers.Cloptonson (talk) 21:09, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think this is a misreading of the ref on the part of the OP. It refers to "one small hamlet", so this presumably refers to some hamlet near Malpas, rather than to Malpas itself. Dave.Dunford (talk) 16:57, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
