This article is written in Canadian English, which has its own spelling conventions (colour, centre, travelled, realize, analyze) and some terms that are used in it may be different or absent from other varieties of English. Edited description of citation[edit]

Previously the citation for James's DFC was described as "cryptic". Not sure why - his disappearance certainly was - but not the citation as published in the "London Gazette". It's quite typical, actually, of a periodic award of the DFC to a WW1 flyer. Grooveman2006 (talk) 02:40, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, his DFC citation is about a quarter the length of the average award citation, and lacks basic details. I concluded it was cryptic after perusing a couple of hundred similar citations in the course of writing articles about other WWI Commonwealth aces. You can check a few of the names listed at http://www.theaerodrome.com/medals/gbritain/dfc.php, and make your own comparison.
