Notability[edit]

I know people will cite those damn essays (I can't remember what they're called) that say all schools are notable, but is this one? Doesn't seem so to me: no notable alumini, not in the news or anything like - no real talk about it at all. Thoughts? Alan16 ^talk 22:36, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't feel all schools are notable, but I do feel all/most high schools or secondary schools are notable. The article is mostly a stub, but it is infoboxed and a public school. That's my opinion, of course, but it's also fairly well supported by the common deletion outcomes, non-consensus guidelines, and the essays. tedder (talk) 22:52, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notability doesn't really happen because there are alumni that are notable. In my mind, they have notability because there is information to be found about them if someone burns enough time to find it. Notability is just shorthand for "no reliable sources listed to establish notability". Schools, especially public schools, (almost) always have reliable sources if someone digs hard enough, perhaps even going to offline sources. There are records for funding, accreditation (even for public high schools), building details, standardized testing results, and so on. You and I fairly fundamentally disagree on this, which is fine. I doing think I'll be going to VP, too many people are set there ways about schools - it can only hurt banging your head against a wall. I would like to say though, that my definition of notability would be different from yours. What you suggests as notability, to me just seems like proof of existence. Being funded doesn't make something notable. I could therefore be notable - I'm funded (parents + work) and I exist (and I think I can prove it!). Regards. Alan16 ^talk 23:10, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
