Maquoketa Caves State Park needs updating -- 64.229.88.43 (talk) 20:56, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@64.229.88.43: Please raise this issue at Talk:Maquoketa Caves State Park and explain what needs updating. To flag the parts of an article that needs updating you can use the Update, Update inline, Update inline span, Update section or Update after templates. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 23:37, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Since I'm commenting here, it relates to needing to be updated to connect to this article and incident. This incident took place at Maquoketa Caves State Park. Since editors of the incident article usually would handle updating related articles, commenting here would be the obvious place to place it. Editors of the incident article don't seem to read the talk pages of related articles, and related article talk pages are usually inactive for months at a time. So... the place to comment would be here on the incident article. -- 64.229.88.43 (talk) 22:27, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@64.229.88.43: Sorry, I do not understand what needs updating in the Maquoketa Caves State Park article. Be bold and edit the Maquoketa Caves State Park article and update the article yourself, because you know what needs fixing and nobody else has fixed it, yet. Or if you cannot, add a update clean-up tag to highlight the place(s) in the article that needs updating and what changes are needed. Editing the article will draw people's attention to the article and its talk page because the change will appear on editors' watch-lists. The best place to comment about updating an article would be on the talk page of that article because the editors of that article are more likely to read it, not the editors of the this article. Anyway, I have added a link to this article from that article, on the off-chance that is what you meant by updating. Somebody else has added a paragraph about the shooting, but not created a wiki-link to this article. Anyway, I have mentioned that the Maquoketa Caves State Park article may need updating on that article's talk page; please expand on what needs updating there. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 08:52, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
other notes, who the hell edited the article someone removed the ghost gun part in the weapons section and frankliy we shouldnt have to DEBATE on what gets added and what doesnt, the FACTS needed to be added into a wiki aritcle, theres many definitons of a HOMEMADE GUN, Sandroi505 (talk) 00:43, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Title[edit]

The the capital letters used in the TITLE of this article implies this shooting took place in the Iowa State Park. However, there are 63 state parks in Iowa, although none are called Iowa State Park. This means the title is imprecise. The CRITERIA for naming an article means the name needs to be commonly recognizable and PRECISE, not just WP:CONCISE. After reading the naming conventions for SHOOTINGS and EVENTS, there are two alternative titling conventions. Generally, events are named for:

  • When the incident happened. Unless multiple incidents occur, this is usually abbreviated to the year. = 2022
  • Where the incident happened. In their headlines or the bodies of their articles, most sources call the place the Maquoketa Caves State Park.
  • What happened. = A shooting.

However, for SHOOTINGS the convention is to use a title like Shooting of <victim>. It is acceptable to title an event article with no year if the event is unlikely to be repeated, such as deaths. Also, most of the cited sources refer to this event as some variant a shooting at Maquoketa Caves State Park in their headlines, although a couple do call it a shooting at an Iowa state park, without using capitals. So while Iowa state park shooting is concise, it is not precise and less recognizable than Maquoketa Caves State Park shooting. Consequently, calling this article the Maquoketa Caves State Park shooting seems to me to be a better title - Cameron Dewe (talk) 08:50, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

no need to debate on facts vs false info[edit]

facts (With references) need to be kept. no need to start a debate on removing and adding. ofc some things can be exempt. for example naming weapon companies. but removing the type of gun? keep the ghost gun part in. or atleast better explain it. homemade gun can be many things Sandroi505 (talk) 00:48, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
