Which Cochrane?[edit]

"Maranhão did not join in the Brazilian declaration of independence of 1822, but in the following year the Portuguese were driven out by Admiral Lord Cochrane"

Alexander_Cochrane or Thomas_Cochrane,_10th_Earl_of_Dundonald? Both were naval officers sometimes active in Brazilian affairs.

Thomas Cochrane, Earl of Dundonald, and Marquis of Maranhão. Macgreco 03:33, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Um.... was this written by a Brazilian? There is plenty of poor grammar; this article needs to be reworked. Umma Kynes 06:20, 16 March 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ummakynes (talkcontribs)

"Um... the article is full of bad grammar, therefore it must have been written by a Brazilian." What kind of logic is that? Why did you not correct what needed to be corrected? I'm Brazilian and I'm completely comfortable with my English skills and, like me, there are many more. But, if we were to follow your train of thought, we (native Brazilians who speak English well) would also butcher your native language, right? So what do you propose if Brazilians are to stay away from Brazilian articles in English according to you? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Notconnectedtome (talkcontribs) 23:46, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Government[edit]

This article needs a section on the government of the state. -- Beland (talk) 19:53, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Economic Prosperity[edit]

The summary section of the article says "It is the poorest state in the country of Brazil." The Economy section starts "Maranhão is one of the richest states of Brazil." While there are scenarios in which both statements could be true, either the way in which they are compatible in this location, or edits that change the assertions, seem needed. I don't begin to know enough about the area to help fix this. Rosie Willis (talk) 17:18, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
