Education[edit]

Twice in the last month this page has been edited to show his education being at Jospeh Rowntree Comprehensive rather than Nunthopre Grammar School. Whoever is behind the edits does not leave a login name but merely an IP address, so it is difficult to have a discussion with them. All other sources, such as this one, for Mark Addy's education state it was at Millthorpe School (http://www.whosdatedwho.com/celebrity/biography/mark-addy.htm ), which, if you check this pages' history and the page about Millthorpe School, clearly show that at the time Mark was at school it was known as Nunthorpe Grammar School. Whoever is insisting that this should be Joe Rows instead, needs to provide some evidence to back it up else i will keep undoing the edit. It must be an independent source and not just " I went to school with him" as this would be considered original research and not allowed. • When i first put this page on my watchlist, someone had already stated that he was educated at Nunthorpe. There was no reference, but i saw no reason to question as several bio pages elsewhere seemed to corroborate this. I have no idea where he was educated, so the first thing put down seemed to me to be the one to defend. However, someone or many people seem to have it that he was educated at Joe Rows. Again i have no idea if this is true. BUT as those edits are done behind the anonymous shield of an IP address i can hardly enter into an adult discussion to resolve this. Therefore to spare my time from constant undo's or reporting this to the wiki hierarchy, i have decided this current edit of the page i have done does accurately reflect the situation by not naming any school at all. The offer is still open to either side of the argument. If anyone can come with definitive references one way or the other then that would make me a very happy person. Second Image Problems[edit]

The second image is a recolored and chopped version of this image, taken from a publicity campaign for the film A Knight's Tale. It is not a picture of Addy as his Game of Thrones character, as was previously captioned (I made that change). I question the validity of the image's "creator" releasing all claims of copyright as it seems to me that he might not have had the legal right to do so in the first place, seeing as the image is a blatant violation of the original copyright holder's rights. Can someone with more knowledge of copyright law than I possess please comment on this problem?JackFloridian (talk) 13:18, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • I agree this looks dodgy. If this is supposed to be a screenshot, then it may have been permissible under certain circumstances, but as the bar across the chest from the original you have found suggests a straight cut and paste with some editing, then this would seem to contravene copyright. IMHO. Rimmer1993 (talk) 22:13, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Birth surname[edit]

The Internet is awash with confusion about his birth name. Some sources say he is Mark Ian Addy, while others say he is Mark Addy Johnson. His wife's name is given with different variations as well, including sometimes having Johnson as either her middle name or birth surname. Can we find a definitive source on this? Which English birth records might be available? I'm wondering if genealogy databases might be of assistance. Beginning (talk) 16:50, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Took out poorly written stuff[edit]

Hi, all. The section on Addy's stage credits had these ridiculous sentences and incomplete sentences tacked onto the end of it, which I cut out and am pasting it here: "his fathers ex wife, val, had 4 kids. Clare, Caroline, Jonathan and james. Clare has a son called olly who is also an actor. But now takes the surname ‘glen’ ." Besides the fact that the capitalization and writing was poor, that passage appears to have been written by someone possibly related to Addy. Additionally, nothing was cited and it was in the wrong section. After I removed it, I did not add it to the section on personal life. If someone knows whether or not Addy has a relative who is also an actor and can cite a source for it, please do addit in the correct section, but I don't really think that listing his father's ex-wife's children and their children is relevant. nycdi (talk) 05:40, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Useful biographical info?[edit]

There seems to be some useful biographical info in this interview, but I don't have time to incorporate any of it myself right now: https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/what-s-on/theatre/the-big-interview-mark-addy-1-3983663 JezGrove (talk) 20:40, 2 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Date and place of birth[edit]

FreeBMD shows this record for a Mark I. Addy, mother's name Birkby, registered in the second quarter of 1964 at the Howden district. So I would suggest that this supports a birth date of 14 January 1964. For 1965 there is only only Mark W Addy, registered in the second quarter, mother's name Rutland, in the Lower Agbrigg. Howden is closer to Tang Hall. But then Tang Hall is not sourced as place of birth anyway. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:51, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
