Raw[edit]

On 6/29/09 he was traded to raw and became a fan favorite I think that should be added. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.116.57.122 (talk) 03:09, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Face turn[edit]

IDK if you know this, but Mark did make a face turn when he came on Raw. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.13.32.11 (talk) 00:25, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pre-1996?[edit]

For this to be a good article, there's gotta be some information on his weightlifting career (a paragraph at least). Right now the biography just starts at 1996, which doesn't make much sense. Wizardman 22:44, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've added some more info on weightlifting, and I'll see what else I can find. ♥NiciVampireHeart♥ 23:02, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Found some info on his high school weightlifting career as well, so it's a good-sixed paragrpah now. ♥NiciVampireHeart♥ 23:15, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ring name[edit]

In addition to just 'Mark Henry' shouldn't we add other things like 'World's Strongest Man' which he has also been introduced as? Furthermore, yesterday he wrestled under the name 'Mark Swoggle' (or mayble Mark-swoggle or Markswoggle, they didn't spell it out, I suggest we redirect all) against Chavo Guerrero. This is because he is wearing a leprechaun's hat and being billed as the cousin of Hornswoggle. While this is an obvious joke nobody would believe, the guest host Jeremy Piven DID technically introduce him as this, so we should list it.

As you can see, it's already listed on the fan section and WrestleZone already wrote a piece on it. There's also one here. "The self-proclaimed “Mexican Warrior” waited in the ring only to discover that, in the words of Piven, Hornswoggle wouldn’t be able to fight, but they had arranged for a substitute: “Mark-swoggle.” Unfortunately for Chavo, “Mark-swoggle” looked a lot like The World’s Strongest Man, Mark Henry, in a Hornswoggle cap. Once Chavo had been sufficiently pummeled, “Mark-swoggle” retrieved Hornswoggle from under the ring to administer a Tadpole Splash on the hapless Chavo." Mark Swoggle is also the rage of forum fans. Tyciol (talk) 03:40, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The World's Strongest Man is just a nickname. He's never been annoucned as just "The World's Strongest Man." As for Markswoggle, I'd say it could be added to the infobox Gavyn Sykes (talk) 05:23, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Dang he never has? I think I've heard the phrase a thousand times by now, if he's never been introduced by it then by pretty much every other reference they throw it in there. Anyway I found some better sources: Official video. The clip does say Mark Henry, but you can hear in the clip he's called Mark-swoggle. I think we should go with the dash because the official announcement uses that. Greg Adkins wrote it on Aug3. If others want to verify that it is here at the moment but this looks like it gets changed on a weekly basis so it won't be there next week and I don't know if they keep archives. Here is the part pertinent to this:
  • “Mark-swoggle” def. Chavo Guerrero (PHOTOS | WATCH) After nagging Jeremy Piven earlier in the night, Chavo Guerrero got his wish – to fight Hornswoggle one-on-one. Hey, Chavo, be careful what you wish for. The self-proclaimed “Mexican Warrior” waited in the ring only to discover that, in the words of Piven, Hornswoggle wouldn’t be able to fight, but they had arranged for a substitute: “Mark-swoggle.” Unfortunately for Chavo, “Mark-swoggle” looked a lot like The World’s Strongest Man, Mark Henry, in a Hornswoggle cap. Once Chavo had been sufficiently pummeled, “Mark-swoggle” retrieved Hornswoggle from under the ring to administer a Tadpole Splash on the hapless Chavo.
The 'video' link is the one above. The photos are here. So while the pic/vids say Henry (verifying it is him, obviously) the official announcement is using Mark-swoggle with a dash, therefore since you've agreed, I will add it. Naturally Mark Henry will remain the bolded name since that's the one he's used the most and obviously will continue to use. Tyciol (talk) 07:47, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think we need to reach some kind of discussion or consensus here on the talk page. Efforts to maintain this ring name in his profile on the right and under nick-names has been reverted. I invite NiciVampireHeart to participate here. Basically, shouldn't a ring name also qualify as a nick-name? That's sorta confusing. Also I invite IP 86 who reverted the ring name here just as IP 75 did before. I am restoring the ring name, but I won't add it back to nick-names because I don't understand the concept as well as ring names and would like to hear feedback from Nici who did politely provide a reason and seems to know the difference since Sexual Chocolate was removed. Presumably, we do not mention ring names as nicknames because 'nick' implies that it is a monicker given in an unofficial manner and listing Mark-swoggle under nick names might imply to people it is less official or something? GA Review[edit]

This review is transcluded from Talk:Mark Henry/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

This is a very nice article, especially after adding in the weightlifting section. I do have a few things to fix though:

  • "and a year later, he became a North America, Central America, Caribbean Islands champion." Did he hold three titles or is that a long name for one? Needs to be clarified.
    • From what I can tell, it's just the one championship. I've attempted to clarify it. ♥NiciVampireHeart♥ 22:08, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • "his first feud in the WWF was with Jerry Lawler who had some harsh words for Henry on an episode of Monday Night Raw in March." I'd go into a bit more detail on what you mean here - what did Lawler say?
    • When me and Nici were working on the article, that was stated in the article. I looked at some sources, but they don't really say anything regarding Lawler having "harsh" words for Henry. But, this does mention he began a feud with Lawler. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 16:25, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Where'd be go between Sept 1996 and 1998?

I'll place the article on hold and pass it when the issues are fixed. Wizardman 20:17, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Since the concerns are addressed, I'll pass the article. Wizardman 03:49, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mark Henry's real weight[edit]

On RAW's tale of the tape on wwe programing August 31, 2009 in his match with the Big Show, the information read 415 lbs., so should his weight be changed to that instead? Danny Boy 420 (talk) 21:49, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I dunno, we must beware of recentism after all. :) I think if we can get a proper reference for this information (my guess is they won't let us link to youtube clips of stats or anything) then it might be possible to change it. In terms of listing weights for those for whom it is notable (like they list it for wrestlers and weight lifters since it's a factor in their competition, but not for Tom Cruise or anything) I am not sure what we consider good references for it. My guess is the weights listed for the Arnold competition are more reliable than weights listed on WWE (one should take it with a grain of salt, since I don't think there's anything barring producers from altering the numbers a bit to impress the audience) but then, it seems pretty obvious that Henry's gained some weight based on his appearance so going up 23 pounds is believable to me. Still we should at least get a reference to support this. The reference for the current 392lbs is his wwe.com bio so ideally if that were changed we could update it because that is the reference we originally rely upon. Actually, I just checked that URL now and it doesn't seem to list his weight at all... so maybe we should change his weight to a blank until we can get a reference which properly lists it? It still lists him as 392lbs so it may be appropriate to change it once his profile is updated? Tyciol (talk) 18:35, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like others are also trying with this, someone changed it to up to 418 which is close to what you proposed, then somebody tried tacked on 105 to get to 523, which sounds more like Big Show's weight. If it's the case he's gained weight I sure hope the profile updates, or if we could find an alternate one. Tyciol (talk) 01:43, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can't we just use whatever he has on WWE.com? Juggalo Dan 420 (talk) 20:27, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

398 lb is his current weight as listed on WWE.com as of 2011 and I changed it to that. Daniel16544 23:42, 19 July 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel16544 (talkcontribs)

Height[edit]

The same person who increased the height the first time also added 3 inches to his height. There seems to be some sort of desire to make him as big as the Show by fans editing here, but the profile referenced from height and weight currently says 6'1" and 392lbs, not 6'4" or 415/418/523 lbs. I wonder if the 6'4" could be his height in the morning after a good night's sleep and he loses 3 inches from spending a day lifting hundreds of pounds around compressing the spine or something? Tyciol (talk) 01:43, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Recent events policy[edit]

I seem to be misinterpreting this since any addition after his defeat of Randy Orton gets removed. How long ago does something need to occur before w can write it? Or is it that we need to include a reference to be able to list an event? One problem is that the WWE site removes their weekly announcements so even though that's a perfect reference for events, it would turn into a bad link since I can't locate any archives. Taking a screenshot to host is probably also not acceptable. Is it about finding external news sources which talk about the match or plot device as a method of establishing the notability differing from the day to day changes? Tyciol (talk) 00:31, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here's the thing, per WP:RECENTISM events that have just happened shouldn't really be added unless they're obviously relevant to the individual's overall career (title win, ascension to ME status, etc). It's not the length of time itself, it's it's overall notability to a career. We may find out later his current feud was VERY notable. But we don't know that yet. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 00:35, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ah okay, so this would also include brand changes (ECW to Raw in this case) since he didn't actually win Orton's title. There are a lot of show bouts against champions that some people win but which aren't for any titles (like how CM Punk had a match against Matt Hardy) which we should not list right? Actually even if it is for a title, it should only be listed if they actually win the title right? Lost challenges would not meet standards of notability? Anyway if he does end up winning the unified tag team then we can mention the story of how the match was set with the boxer guest host. The only thing I'm wondering is: aren't face changes somewhat notable too? The win against Orton making him a 'favourite' is part of a face change, so mentioning how he's rescued Hornswoggle from Chavo (even if Evan Bourne seems to have taken over this role) seems relevant to building upon how they're doing a face change. It's also notable because it's his first use of an alternate ring name and his first tag team on this new run on Raw (people might mistakenly assume MVP was his first tag team partner if we mention that without anything before it). Tyciol (talk) 18:27, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If he officially switched brands to Raw, that should be noted. Meaning he's on the Raw roster page on WWE.com I've not been watching lately, so I'm actually not sure. Cross-brand matches are not notable unless the title is won, I can't tell if that's what you're talking about or if he actually switched brands. And if he has turned face, that should definitely be added (with a source). Gavyn Sykes (talk) 19:54, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
To Gavyn, yes he officially switched brands, and it is noted in the article as is the fact he turned face. To Tyciol, I don't see how the thing with Hornswoggle is notable at all. He replaced him in a match once, and then they teamed together in one(?) match, so I wouldn't class it as a tag team, more a random pairing. Orton and Cena have teamed up while feuding, does that make them a tag team? After Henry retires it going to be notable in his overall career that he once replaced Hornswoggle in a match with Chavo? No it's not. I personally think the MVP team is notable, there's a build to the ppv and there have been matches between the two teams or combinations of them in singles matches. The thing to remember with that, however, that we don't add future events to wrestler's articles, because it is impossible to tell whether a future event will become notable in his overall career. ♥NiciVampireHeart♥ 02:15, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Again, it's not something notable in and of itself, it just seems like the progression of the events is notable. When Cena and Orton teamed, one had not rescued the other previously, it also wasn't part of a face change, and they wrestled under their usual names. Also: while defeating Orton made him a favourite, I'm not certain that is what you could call a face change, since heels beat each other up too. I agree with you that the teaming with MVP could be more notable due to the buildup over a couple weeks to a PPV event. Certainly if they win the title it's more important. Even if it was a random team-up though, it's still his first team-up on this new run on Raw right? Coming to the rescue of Hornswoggle was really the first 'good' thing I saw him do. He was already building a more humourous personality when he was doing his smiling and finger-wagging at Orton, but going from that to jumping and clicking his heels and an irish dance is a huge shift in character I hadn't seen him do before. Also, didn't Mark appear on screen one last time when Chavo was looking around for Hornswoggle and he got hit with a flying box and Macaulay Culkin showed up and then Chavo said "what hit me" and Mark was there and said "not me?" or something? Tyciol (talk) 01:29, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Move?[edit]

I noticed there was a disambiguation for other people named Mark Henry, do you think at some point in future that the disambig should be hosted there and this should be at Mark Jerrold Henry or Mark Henry (wrestler) or something like that? Tyciol (talk) 01:22, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Markswoggle[edit]

It's necesary put the markswoggle name? you don't put the names of BlackSnow & Chet Lemon in Booker T & Kevin Nash's articles, I think that Markswoggle y more stupit that Black Snow & Chet lemon--88.23.195.16 (talk) 23:55, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I notice somebody added Sexual Chocolate though. I think for any ring names other than 'Mark Henry' we should be providing links to reference URLs and the dates when he was introduced by said ring name. I did not ever see him introduced as SC, but I did see him twice introduced as Mark-swoggle and I think they posted that on the WWE site. Nym (talk) 17:20, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Mark Henry[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Mark Henry's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

WSM[edit]

A number of editors have been adding an entry for Mark Henry on the disambiguation page WSM. The rationale given for this addition seems to be that Henry is (one of the men to hold the title of) World's Strongest Man and that the letters "WSM" appear on his tights. Neither of these is grounds for an entry in a disambiguation page, which is intended to distinguish between the names of entities. This article makes no claim that Henry is actually known by the name "WSM", so I am asking now that if he is indeed normally referred to as such, this alternative name be added in bold to the lead paragraph, and that a citation be provided. Intro too long[edit]

The whole article is bloated, clunky, erratically plotted, often boring or unintelligible and overly focused on weightlifting. I thought it was a problem, till I realized it accurately reflects Henry's wrestling career. So I'll let it slide. InedibleHulk (talk) 08:31, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Losing virginity at 8 with his sister[edit]

He claims this happened during a 'sex therapy' session backstage during the 'sexual chocolate' phras, and that he was with her again 'day before yesterday'. Some videos of it are on YT, wondering if this is notable to mention during that span since it illustrates how non-PG the attitude era was. No actual mention of him having any sisters though (just an older brother), which is probably why he felt comfortable saying it. If I'm wrong and he really does have a sister she would be worth mentioning. Ranze (talk) 08:07, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, Mark Henry has died today on June 17, 2017 due to overexposure to Kentucky Fried Chicken, and the pleasure of fucking well-known WWE midget Hornswoggle. He will always be remembered as Sexual Chocolate.

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. JTP (talkcontribs) 02:30, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

PRETENDING ?[edit]

Who wrote based on pure personal assumption Mark Henry was pretending not really pushing the Tank? Who do un-sourced assumptions like that get allowed in wrestling articles ? I checked this article back in 2014 and it was written appropriately: Mark Henry pushing a tank. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mark_Henry&type=revision&diff=635901757&oldid=635826744 , so someone did vandilism in the middle and it remained unnoticed.. Henry did not appear in 2K19, but appeared in 2K20. Ty Karac Sargent (talk) 23:07, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. JTP (talkcontribs) 23:45, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request[edit]

He currently works AEW rather than WWE, as an accouncer for the upcoming show, Rampage. Source: https://www.wrestlinginc.com/news/2021/05/wwe-hall-of-famer-signs-with-aew/

  • announcer and also wants to get in the ring again now that he's 50 so he can say he's wrestled in 4 decades (90s, 00s, 10s, 20s)

Supertotal Error[edit]

There is a clear error in Mark Henry's supertotal 5 official weightlifting & powerlifting lifts combined – the snatch + the clean-and-jerk and the squat + bench press + deadlift = Five-Lift-Combined-Total: 396.8 lb (180.0 kg) + 485.0 lb (220.0 kg) + 953.5 lb (432.5 kg) + 858.3 lb (389.3 kg) + 903.9 lb (410.0 kg) = 3,324.5 lb (1,508.0 kg) 389.3KG Bench Press? This is clearly an error. I assume by the total that it's using somewhere between the 265-272 Gym best, but it shouldn't be 389.3kg Dpriest442 (talk) 03:35, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for pointing this out. It is worth noting that none of these sources are independent. They're all Mark Henry's personal websites. Actual independent sources give radically lower numbers for Mark Henry's lifts, and we don't list "unofficial best" lifts done in the gym on Wikipedia. Only lifts that were done in distinguished competitions are notable on Wikipedia. Futhermore, dubious claims of being a "drug-tested" athlete are original research without an independent reliable source.
And unsurprisingly, the article has serious WP:PUFFERY issues that cast Henry as a mythological strength athlete, despite the true poundages in the reliable sources being modest by elite standards. - Hunan201p (talk) 12:10, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

At the very beginning of the 4th paragraph Henry's name is misspelled as "Hebry". I would fix it but I can't edit... can someone fix that? Banerit (talk) 01:49, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
