Nationality in lead[edit]

Not sure why this is a problem? See WP:MOSBIO. --Tom 18:38, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is severafold. First, saying he is New York-based already says everything the reader needs to know about his residency and locational context. Why would there be a need to point out that he is an American citizen, something we assume but is not sourced in the article? Second, removing the statement that he is New York based degrades the article, because new york cabaret is a specific genre, business-wise, culturally, and artistically. Saying he is an American in New York is redundant...as opposed to what, an Englishman based in New York? If that's the case we can attribute that. MOS is satisfied by giving the reader the context they need to know, not mechanically slapping a stamp of citizenship in the introductory sentence to the lead of every person in the encyclopedia. If we need that for sorting purposes we could use categories. Wikidemon (talk) 18:44, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
MOS seems pretty clear. If you want to add where the person is based, that can be added outside the lead unless it adds to their notability and can be sourced as such. --Tom 18:49, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nope. The article as it was is a more encyclopedic presentation and truer to the sources. Of course Nadler's being in the New York cabaret scene can be sourced. One would have to dig to find sourcing establishing other than by WP:SYNTH that he is American.Wikidemon (talk) 18:53, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is still a MOSBIO issue/disagreement. --Tom 19:40, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
