Hello[edit]

Hi guys, I'm TheMagnificentist. I created this article about Marshmello the EDM music producer. This is the talk page of the article. Please discuss how we can improve the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheMagnificentist (talkcontribs)

Marshmello has a new music video for his song Summer. Metalsnake10 (talk) 20:03, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Ritchie333:. The vandalism by IPs on this article has started right after the protection you set had expired. I would like to request new protection for the article as you said to ping you for a longer protection.[1] - TheMagnificentist (talk) 19:30, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Identity[edit]

I didn't know anything about Marshmello til I read the article. I came away with the impression that Marshmello is Chris Leenstroke. While Comstock seems the most likely, others such as Jauz, and Martin Garrix have come up. (I'm partial to the idea that Marshmello is several djs managed by Moe Shalizi - I'm going to create a stub on him.) I think we should move the info as to Marhsmello's identity into a separate section and offer all of the theories (or the ones that have been written about by reliable independent sources). Any objections? (Pinging TheMagnficentist).JSFarman (talk) 18:49, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I just made the changes.JSFarman (talk) 20:32, 2 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
He's officially revealed himself (http://edmchicago.com/2017/08/15/marshmellos-identity-now-known-publically/).

Yeah, it's Comstock - He wrote Silence and appears on the writing credits for "Silence". See Forbes Article from earlier in November. (https://www.forbes.com/sites/natalierobehmed/2017/11/14/unmasking-marshmello-the-real-identity-of-the-21-million-dj/#734790534ffe) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 143.97.2.35 (talk) 16:14, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There is no proof he is actually Comstock, therefore this should not be cited as true off of other articles. This gives false fact to readers and it should be changed to anonymous until actually proven true. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:E000:1300:C1B4:7827:5D7A:806A:1AFF (talk) 22:14, 5 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Forbes has already confirmed his identity. Read the actual article. Hayman30 (talk) 23:52, 5 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Love Don't Let Me Go[edit]

@TheMagnificentist: Marshmello did not officially announce the single, according to the Business Standard source, he just played a supposedly demo version of it, or maybe that's just what the author thinks. Other sources are heavily based on the screenshot which apparently shows that the song is registered on ASCAP, but the correctness and accuracy of it could not be verified. Hayman30 (talk) 12:22, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

And please don't restore your changes after other editors removed them in good faith per WP:BRD. Hayman30 (talk) 12:25, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Hayman30: Marshmello didn't announce it but the media did. ASCAP is an association for composers, if it's registered there then it's legit. - TheMagnificentist 12:27, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@TheMagnificentist: How do you know it is actually registered at ASCAP? The screenshot was originally posted on Twitter, we don't know whether it's fake or not. Hayman30 (talk) 12:32, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Hayman30: It's here on the ASCAP site. - TheMagnificentist 12:35, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@TheMagnificentist: It's blank for me. Hayman30 (talk) 12:36, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe you can see better by manually searching for the work ID (892598477). - TheMagnificentist 12:39, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Name[edit]

There seem to be many sources and evidences to identify Marshmello as Chris Leenstroke. Would it be a good idea to name him now? @Cdpedersen:@JSFarman:@Hayman30:@Steel-Centurion:@Hheronnofficial:TheMagnificentist 16:13, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose - the sources are not certain themselves, they're unable to explicitly verify Marshmello's identity. Hayman30 (talk) 16:42, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Reping @Cdpedersen, JSFarman, Steel-Centurion, and Hheronnofficial: FYI, pings only go through if there is a new comment with a new signature. They don't work when you edit a previous comment.
The sources cite ASCAP and physical clues like tattoos as evidences. ASCAP is a reliable source and it can be used to verify minor information. — TheMagnificentist 17:09, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
An anonymous music producer's actual identity is not minor information, this falls under unverifiable information. ASCAP does not say Marshmello is Chris Leenstroke, it simply shows that Leenstroke is one of the songwriters, you're merely guessing. Other sources are pure rumor and speculation. We'll need multiple reliable sources that directly imply "Marshmello is Chris Leenstroke". Hayman30 (talk) 17:20, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reversion[edit]

I'm gonna use WP:BRD here. @Hayman30: Can you please explain your reversion of my removal? jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk • contribs) 23:25, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Jd22292: Thanks for bringing it up here. When artists have their discography sections split into separate articles, the initial section on the artists' primary article should contain a simple list of their studio album(s), with links to their separate discography articles for further listing. See respective article guidelines on WP:WPMAG. Hayman30 (talk) 23:47, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Famous Birthdays[edit]

@Pablodiego15: Some editors on Wikipedia have said that Famous Birthdays is not a reliable source. While it's not the most reliable source for birthdays, I personally don't consider it as unreliable because almost always their posts are accurate. I certainly don't dispute the Forbes source that recognises Marshmello as Chris Leenstroke, who is also known as Dotcom. A better birthday source will be good because Famous Birthdays, by Wikipedia standards, fail as a reliable source and I think another editor or a bot will eventually remove it soon. — Zawl 13:58, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There are some sources stating that Marshmello is 24 years old last year and other sources that his friends like Skrillex and Getter wished him for his birthday on the 19th of May. I guess multiple sources can help verify it, if anyone wants to add them. — Zawl 14:05, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Marshmello's background[edit]

This part might need revision as well? HueMan1 (talk) 07:39, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Birthdate[edit]

@Prahlad balaji: You can't cite a Google search result as a source for Marshmello's date of birth, instead, a reliable source must be provided. I noticed that you've brought up another page to back up your argument, but in fact the DOB was sourced on that page. Look at the second paragraph in the lead and you'll see a link to AllMusic. Please discuss here to avoid further edit warring. Hayman30 (talk) 23:44, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the name is not cited, first of all, so it's a WP:BLP violation. Even AllMusic at his biography says only "Marshmello (whose real identity is largely believed to be Christopher Comstock aka Dotcom)..." (emphasis added). The burden of proof falls on whoever makes the claim; unless "Christopher Comstock" can be cited as definitive, it's a BLP violation without a similar disclaimer. --2604:2000:1382:C5DD:D1D9:7481:118E:4943 (talk) 17:41, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I want to add a chapter about him playing Fortnite. The title should be "Fortnite", and it should say that in 2018, he started playing Fortnite with Ninja, TimTheTatman and DrLupo and that together with Ninja, they won the E3 Pro-Am tournament. Thank you and I hope you will accept the request. ProgenT20YT (talk) 14:27, 4 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ARTICLE EVALUATION[edit]

Marshmellow's article material is relevant, it provides his accomplishments over the years to present day, and how he began getting known. No information is out of date, it presents the exact year when he performed at a concert, festival, etc. Some information that could be added is recent entertainments around the world that he has held. The article is neutral because the article does not say anything disagreeable or unpleasant about the artist. As I read the article, did not see any biased arguments. It simply describes facts of his achievements, performances, early career, etc. Underrepresented information that needs to be elaborated was his early career, it focused more on who he is now, than who he was before. The citations and links do make it easy for you to find addition relevant information of Marshmello. There are multiple sources that can lead you to explore in depth a particular event. There can be articles that are used as references that may be biased toward how they feel about Marshmello, more than just facts, but opinions. On the Talk Page, conversations on how to improve the article are being held, there are some people that claim some facts are not accurate, and while some claim some information needs to be added, they need to have reliable sources to back up their claim. This article is part of the WikiProject Electronic Music, where many artist of EDM are discussed. Wikipedia discusses the topic similarity on how we've talked about in class because it is a summary with a neutral point of view, that describes the major parts of the topic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lreyes20 (talkcontribs) 20:41, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request RE: False BLP citation[edit]

The footnote given for his birthdate in the inbox is blatantly false: AllMusic at https://www.allmusic.com/artist/marshmello-mn0001374210/biography does not give a birthdate. Per WP:BLP, uncited personal-life claims about living people must be removed. --2604:2000:1382:C5DD:D1D9:7481:118E:4943 (talk) 17:37, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
