Chesapeake Tide / Maryland Maniacs[edit]

In regards to the removal of all references to the Tide in this entry, that's a bit problematic.

In real terms, the Maniacs are the same entity that was once the Tide. It was owned by Martin Johnson, returned back to the CIFL, then sold to a group led by Messay Hailemariam. The Maniacs have the same head coach as the 2008 Tide, use the same training facility, play in the same home arena and maintain the same info pages on LeagueLineup.com.

In official terms, the Maniacs are being relaunched as a new expansion franchise a la the NFL's Baltimore Ravens or MLS' Houston Dynamo. The Maniacs are not using any of the Tide history, colors et al for promotional purposes. The only major difference is that the discarded Tide history et al aren't being saved for some potential team in the indeterminate future, they're simply expected to stay in the never-never.

Since Wikipedia allows for the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Dynamo to claim themselves as separate entities from the former Cleveland Browns and San Jose Earthquakes respectively, it should probably allow the same for the Maryland Maniacs. What Wikipedia should not do is to pretend that the Chesapeake Tide never existed.

I invite further discussion on how this should be handled. EvWill (talk) 10:02, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
