Significance of National Register Listing[edit]

This nomination was many decades in the making. The Arc, North and Tangent Lines received National Register Listings in the 1970's through DE. The only West Line monument received it's National Register Listing during the same time period through WV. Neither MD nor PA submitted any nominations until 2017. Typically, a National Register nomination process involves a single state submission. This nomination received unanimous support from both MD and PA. Neither state had the required qualified personnel nor the funding deemed necessary to achieve a National Register Listing. This National Listing fulfilled a dream and honored a final wish. It never received the funding nor the team of specialized historians. It was completed through the spirit of volunteerism. Without inspiration and a greater good this National Listing would not exist. It's journey to the National Register of Historic Places has paved the way for every stone on the West Line to be listed.
