Extension of blue line[edit]

It looks like an extension is being built to the Blue line at Tha Phra, extending the line coming from Charan Sanitwong into Ratchadaphisek. A certain distance shows the elevated tracks and further on works are being done in the centre of the road. I cannot find any mention of it in this article, nor on the website of MRTA. −Woodstone (talk) 15:04, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think you're referring to the construction of a new underpass tunnel at the Ratchadaphisek–Ratchaphruek intersection. The elevated tracks extending beyond the station have always been there—they're used for train switching. --Paul_012 (talk) 18:53, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The length of the tracks is about 500 m. which seemed a bit excessive to me for just switching. Extending would make a lot of sense for the network and solve the curious signage conundrum at Tha Phra where trains depart in the direction of Tha Phra.−Woodstone (talk) 09:04, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
A lot of that length is dead space since the station uses island platforms. I recall reading somewhere that extending it south to meet the BTS at Talat Phlu was impractical as the road bridge over Khlong Bangkok Yai was pretty much in the way. Not sure how they plan to address this with the proposed Grey Line extension, which is not in the master plan but mentioned a bit here, though the mention hasn't been updated to cover the latest proposal. --Paul_012 (talk) 10:17, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
