Merging the article

There was a request for this article to be merged with Mastertronic Added Dimension (M.A.D). Basically everything in that article was in the original Mastertronic article when it was created. i redirected the M.A.D article to here. The information that was redundant can be found under Mastertronic#New_labels.2C_expansion_and_diversification. - flipjargendy 19:11, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Clean Up?

Since i'm not a very experienced Wikipedian yet, i'd like it if someone would look over the article and let me know what they think of it. i'm not quite sure, but does it need to be cleaned up at all?

You need to clarify the relationship with [This article]. It's clear that the Wikipedia article is largely a slight reworking of this. Are you the original author of that article and/or do you have permission to reproduce it here?

If so, that's okay; if not, it should be removed on the grounds of plagiarism.

Was the company name ever Mastertronics (note the 's')?

The only "Mastertronics" results I get on Google seem to be those where the author has missed out the apostrophe in the possessive (such as "...reference for Mastertronics budget games...", instead of "Mastertronic's"); that doesn't count. I may be wrong on this.

The name of the company is on the logo

Okay, all the logos I've seen have "Mastertronic" on them, but it's not a big deal. ADDENDUM: See 'Name' below

and the article was a requested article.

Again, no problem. If it hadn't been there, I'd have requested and/or written it myself.

i attempted to contact the author of the website but had no response. There were a number of websites that were using the same article so i figured i'd rework it and put it up here. i am under the assumption that the website has not been updated in quite a long time. flipjargendy 20:23, 24 August 2005 (UTC)

It looks like the original article is at [| this site]. Apparently this person is happy for the article to be reused if they are notified of its use; the one I originally linked to (and the one you seem to have based your article on) seems to be derived from this. If you've notified the original source as requested (and a courtesy), they've no cause for complaint as they say the material can be used freely. You COULD argue a case that you don't necessarily have permission to use the contents of the derived article; I don't think this will be an issue.

If the original author hadn't given permission, I'd still push for this to be removed; the justification that it had been copied elsewhere on the web doesn't mean anything if those people didn't have permission to do so. Yes; you're unlikely to get sued into the ground for copying something from a personal website, but it's discourteous and a project like Wikipedia should try to maintain high standards across its pages. May I add, as the person responsible for the article on the guter.org website, that I am very happy for material in that article to be used here. Also, to clarify another point, the company name was always Mastertronic Limited though on some games the name Mastertronics was sometimes used in error. Anthony Guter

Okay, I'm definitely being a pedant (and sad here), but.... you mentioned that the name "Mastertronics" with the 's' was mentioned in one of their logos... the only plausible place I could see it was in some of the early M.A.D. games (later versions had "Mastertronic Added Dimension"). It looked like it read "Mastertronic's Added Dimension", but the scans didn't have enough resolution to be sure that was an apostrophe. Well... I went and dug out my old "Spellbound" cassette, and there's definitely an apostrophe there. So it's "Mastertronic's...." not "Mastertronic".

Although others may have made the mistake and propogated it (and 'Mastertronics' sounds at least as natural as 'Mastertronic', so the mistake is pretty understandable), this doesn't make it correct.

i never said there was an s. i refered to the logo which has no s. Also if you do a google search for images for Mastertronic the results are much different then a search for Mastertronics. So far the game you refered to is the only one i've seen with an s. It looks like most MAD games don't have the s in the logo. flipjargendy 00:03, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

My apologies then... I thought you were claiming the company was called 'Mastertronics'. Anyhow, that spelling is gone now.

BTW, apologies if my rearrangement of stuff in the opening paragraph seemed gratuitous; the info is still there, but adding my new stuff to the end would have (a) messed up the flow, (b) not kept related info together and (c) bloated the "overview" too much.

Budget Software article?

Although I didn't want to make the intro/overview section any longer (it's already about as long as it should get), I think the nature of budget software could be clearer. The best way to do this would be a separate article about the UK budget software market...

It looks fine to me. i wanted to add some information but don't have time to do much on Wiki anymore. Not as much as i hoped to. i'm about to get married, maybe some time a while after i get married i can continue my wikipedia work. Edit away! That's what wikipedia is for :-). Thanks for the help.
