D. Hardie ??[edit]

This is either a real person whose name has been added for a joke, or vandalism (Hardie--> Die Hard). The references supplied are literally 404. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.30.142.184 (talk) 13:36, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

central organization?[edit]

The article refers to the event with the definite article "the". Is this appropriate or is it a generic term? Potatoswatter 19:45, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not generic although the grammar and spelling are often mangled. from http://www.suspectthoughts.com/queen.html

"This was originally an idea cooked up by Good Vibrations as part of their National Masturbation Month, and in that version, people would get sponsors ("Hey, wanna donate a buck for every minute I can masturbate?") and then send the money they collected to Good Vibes, who in turn donated 100% of it to sexual health-related nonprofits. CSC took this great idea one more step--we organized a LIVE Masturbate-A-Thon, with women's, men's, and mixed rooms, MCs like the Telethon uses, and a live webcast. We own Masturbate-A-Thon.com, so some of this footage will go up there eventually, and we're going to Portland, Oregon later this month to help host a live 'Thon there as well! Nothing gets you past any lingering shame you might have about the solitary pleasure by going into a room where it's not so solitary any more. Obviously this is about much more than fundraising--it's about confronting social taboos and acknowledging how great and healthy masturbation can be. Hey, and it's educational, too! One woman raised over $400, and donations are still coming in."Benjiboi 15:40, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Time records?[edit]

I don't understand the "time" records that say 3 h 30 min for women and 7 h 31 min for men. Is that the time it took to achieve the mentioned orgasms? Consider revising this paragraph so it becomes clear how the competition is measured. Also, let me know if anyone needs a video tape that confirms six wanks in 7 hours is not that hard. ;-D Doc Daneeka 01:19, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I combined records categories and added a line of context.Benjiboi 02:24, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Can't use emails as a source[edit]

"Drs. Queen and Lawrence were asked by a friend in Scotland to "...come across the pond and produce one here." (source - Robert Lawrence e-mails 2006)"

I pulled this out as it seems to be sourced to private emails not a reliable secondary source. See WP:RS and WP:V for more details. TheGrappler 09:37, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Record section[edit]

I've reverted a number of edits made by a user who completely reinvented the record section, claiming that "Copenhagen event looks to be fictitious". Please don't base edits on conspiracy theories or conservative estimates, rather do some research. Clearly, the Copenhagen event took place and was well documented. --Minutae (talk) 00:44, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There doesn't seem to be a reliable source for that actually. A Copenhagen event may have taken place but we need reliable sources to show it happenned and attribute any records to it. -- Banjeboi 00:54, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Banjeboi, kindly do some research before you jump at the keys, this ain't a race! The Copenhagen event was well reported and documented, there was even a TV-crew present shooting a segment (still avalable online) featuring Pia Struck, who is one of Denmark's most famous sexologists. The www.masturbate-a-thon.com site which you use as source is simply not updated. --Minutae (talk) 01:02, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but even if the www.masturbate-a-thon.com is not updated it is considered reliable for documenting the records which are often vandalized on this article. I rather doubt the TV noted the records but if they did or if the records are documented anywhere else let's look at those sources to ensure they are reliable. Until we verify which ones are usable I'm restoring the version that does cite reliable sourcing. -- Banjeboi 01:21, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You are barking up the wrong tree here. Lack of mention on an American website in no way indicates that a European event didn't take place! If you think you can learn everything about Europe from US homepages, well good luck to you. The fact is that the Copenhagen Masturbate-a-thon 2009 took place on May 30 2009 at 11am-7pm at Swingland in Ishøj and involved guests from several countries including a fairly large team of judges and assistants. All results were carefully counted, measured and noted. Reliable official sources include the official website http://www.masturbate-a-thon.dk. You have no legitimate reason to indicate that Europeans are less reliable than Americans, in fact I'd say that the fact that the Copenhagen results aren't included on the US website indicates the American website should no longer be used as reliable source. --Minutae (talk) 16:02, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It was never indicated that a US cite was more reliable; just that the official records of the Masturbate-a-thon website has no acknowledgement and 222 orgasms seems a rather exceptional claim - and still do. Meanwhile you reverted off content that was valid and sourced just to reinsert the copenhagen content you seem interested in promoting. I'll leave the length content until we have a uninvolved editor verify the source and translation. -- Banjeboi 17:49, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Kindly refrain from remarks like "the copenhagen content you seem interested in promoting". I'm not promoting anything, I'm correcting false data in order to make Wikipedia a valid source of information. The people behind the U.S. website clearly acknowledge the Copenhagen event - they try to link to it from their website (http://www.masturbate-a-thon.com/links.php) - but at the same time they clearly haven't sufficiently updated their site - or they'd have noticed that the mentioned link is dead. I agree that the 222 number is exceptional, but life is full of surprises, and this is hardly the first time Scandinavia has stood out in sexual matters. It just so happens I know for a fact that the Copenhagen event took place as reported, on top of which I'm a regular, reliable Wikipedia contributor and I've sourced my information, so I kindly urge you not to post any more false allegations. --Minutae (talk) 21:50, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You can stop accusing me of accusing you, OK? I'm asking for exceptional sourcing for exceptional claims - this is a core policy. The main website seems to be updated quite regularly so that none of the Copenhagen records are listed is not an issue with me - they are an issue with that site; why they regularly update other information but not add the Copenhagen bits? Who knows, but they are arguably the most reliable source on this information. As an alternative we could simply remove all of this information as too trivial and just be done with it. I've found a reliable source for 94 orgasms and have added it; likewise "come to come" is about how far someone travels to get to the event so I've removed that as unneeded trivia. -- Banjeboi 10:45, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The 94 number is from 2008, the 2009 number is 222, look again! The "come to come" issue has nothing to do with me. As a personal note, I was as astonished by the 222 number as anybody else, but I happen to know it was squirting orgasms leaving little or no reason for doubt. In a wider perspective, you must take into account that we have just entered the age of clitoris and G-spot orgasm studies, masturbation instructors, quality vibrators etc. There are still many people who think female ejaculations is a myth, that's how new this area is. The potential ability of the human body and mind is apparently still not fully explored. Think of the amazing results that were achieved when for instance body-building took off thanks to modern training equipment and nutrition science, and it makes sense that in this area of auto eroticism we are now witnessing amazing results from the study and teaching of people like Betty Dodson. Copenhagen has an orgasm academy teaching people to have more and better orgasms, so why should that not yield results? The really surprising thing is that the US Masturbate-a-thon website either isn't updated or that the people behind it have decided to hide the truth, which admittedly would only be the latest in a long list of lies/censorships about female orgasms (see the article Clitoris), but from an unexpected source. Either way, masturbate-a-thon.com can no longer be regarded as a reliable source of information. --Minutae (talk) 11:59, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Outdent. Conspiracy theories and female sexuality issues aside, Masturbate-a-thon.com is likely not the most reliable source for a lot of information but as the founding and coordinating organization for these events they are likely the most reliable source documenting the records related to events they coordinate. If you can direct me where on the Masturbate-a-thon.com website the 222 orgasm record in Copenhagen is cited I will be quite happy to reconsider - on Wikipedia we go by verifiability not truth. -- Banjeboi 23:38, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Your request to be shown "where on the Masturbate-a-thon.com website the 222 orgasm record in Copenhagen is cited" is utter nonsense, I already said above that they aren't listing it. The official Danish website is of course a better source to an event that took place in Denmark, than a US website that has not been updated to include it. You can salute and quote nerdy boy scout slogans like "on Wikipedia we go by verifiability not truth!" all you like, but either your flawed edits will remain or they will be corrected, and either way you will have accomplished nothing but errors -- which is what usually happens when people blindly follow rules and refuse taking common sense into account. --Minutae (talk) 22:47, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Checking sources for this amazing event, I can confirm verifiability that Danish events in 2008 and 2009 really took place, the 2008 event even found way into the national broadcasting coorp. [1], and that the 222 record for 2009 is verified in [2] - it's a major tabloid (i.e. unimpressive reputation for facts checking). Perhaps the real issue is one measurability, in this major newspaper [3] one of the organizers says that for females it "can be difficult" to tell if an orgasm took place or was faked. Who knows, perhaps next year's record will be 333, followed by 444 etc. Power.corrupts (talk) 11:33, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yea! Thanks for helping, can you help convert those references into WP:Citation templates and add what language they are in? Then i feel comfortable adding in the information. -- Banjeboi 15:55, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It can also be difficult to tell which racing car is first to cross the finishing line or which ice skater gives the best performance, but it's hardly Wikipedia's role to question the rulings of officially selected judges at international marathon events. Meanwhile, the official US website has been updated to include the Danish event, see masturbate-a-thon.com. --Minutae (talk) 17:20, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
