Steryotyping?[edit]

"who also has status as one of the lads amongst his peers; being gay is only incidental to his character."

In my eyes this quote suggests that it is the norm for gay people to act in a certain way, and could be potential steryotyping of gay men. After further consideration, I think rephrasing is in order to avoid confusion. Perhaps simply mentioning that the show focuses very little on the character's sexual orientation and that his being gay is not a major plot element on its own; American television hasn't reached the point where there can be a gay character on TV whose sexuality isn't an "issue" deserving extensive on-screen exploration. Because of this, I can understand why American readers of this article would benefit from knowing that the common portrayal of gay characters on American television is simply not universal. As an American viewer of this show, I certainly expected Maxxie's orientation to be a "big deal" and was surprised when it turned out not to be. - I added more to the section about his sexuality. I hope people find my addition appropriate. Perhaps it deserves its own section but it seems to work the way it is now.
