August S. Duesenberg[edit]

Is there evidence that August S. Duesenberg in fact worked for Maytag or the former Mason? In my literature, Fred Duesenberg is mentioned as superintendent for the Mason Motor Co. from 1906 until 1909. When the company was sold to F. L. Maytag in 1909, and his 4 cylinder Walking beam engine was rejected for the larger Maytag car (it got a propietary 280 c.i. American Excelsior instead), Fred left and opened Duesenberg automobile Co. in St. Paul. August was in Garner, Iowa, from 1904 at least until 1908, where he run his own bicycle shop. He married in garner in 1906.

There remained connections between Fred and Mason/Maytag. Possibly, Fred returned to Mason after E.R. Mason bought the company back in 1912. He surely raced "Mason" fours with his engine; they became Duesenbergs in 1913.--Chief tin cloud (talk) 20:09, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
