Is it not needed here? @Artemisialufkin Editor120918756 (talk) 15:25, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Editor120918756: It's not. By the way, I really wish you had notified me before creating this article. You cannot create an article without content or references, as you did initially, nor should you copy and paste text without providing attribution. Please refer to WP:CORRECTSPLIT. It would have been better to start this article as a draft and then move it to mainspace when it was ready. Artemisia (talk) 15:56, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ArtemisialufkinOh damn, I didn't know that. Sorry, if I'd known, I would have followed the procedure ^^; Editor120918756 (talk) 16:00, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Editor120918756: No worries, just something to bear in mind for the future! Artemisia (talk) 16:04, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ArtemisialufkinI did the split edit on the main page. I don't understand step 7, could you explain it to me or do it? Editor120918756 (talk) 16:10, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Editor120918756: Don't worry about it, there aren't any links that need changing. Artemisia (talk) 16:19, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions for topics to be added[edit]

  • Hanbok design/fashion can probably be expanded a lot
  • Books can take their own section, if we can find material for it (can add her mother's book here? I think her mother wrote a book)

Editor120918756 (talk) 15:30, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Artemisialufkinhttps://m.yna.co.kr/amp/view/AKR20130320057700017 Is this a legitimate news link we can use? (for Dior) Editor120918756 (talk) 15:23, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Editor120918756: Yes, Yonhap is reliable. See WP:KO/RS for a list of reliable Korean sources. Artemisia (talk) 15:30, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ArtemisialufkinOK, I added a picture of hanbok, and also created a section on fashion. I'll add the dior one later, could you proofread the current section? I think it looks disorganized (picture description could be better, as well), and we should beef it up. Editor120918756 (talk) 15:45, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ArtemisialufkinAdded Dior using google translate lol. Is there a source for Dior sponsoring ATS in 2013? Also about the various magazines, I will try to find them, think it bears mentioning. Can also mention she was mentioned by Parasite's director in the media section. Editor120918756 (talk) 17:47, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Artemisialufkin I think the fashion section is almost complete. We just need sources for 1. when she got that dior ambassadorship 2. which magazines she's been in, especially as the cover girl. Editor120918756 (talk) 13:57, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Would this also be the place to discuss Kim's impact on figure skating? If so, this is probably a good source: https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2010-feb-11-la-sp-olympics-kim11-2010feb11-story.html If not, does it better fit in her main bio? Thanks, Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 23:30, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think impact on figure skating should be discussed in the main article, but that's me @Figureskatingfan Editor120918756 (talk) 13:23, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Editor120918756, that makes sense. I'm thinking that it should be a new section in Kim's bio, as a subsection in the Skating technique section. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 21:03, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that this should be added to the main article, and I think it's something that definitely needs to be addressed as Kim has had a big impact on the current generation of Korean skaters. Artemisia (talk) 23:54, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cultural impact[edit]

I think this is the last topic I'll be adding. I know there were a lot of things about her feminist image, and also that she's considered an icon till date. I am hoping we can dig up some sources for all that.

I can somehow no longer find the hugh jackman thing. Would appreciate help. Editor120918756 (talk) 14:14, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Editor120918756: Did you have plans to expand this section further? It would be better to not have a section with only one sentence in it. Artemisia (talk) 16:30, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I want to find that info about Hugh Jackman again, but apart from that it's better to collapse it into some other section though. @Artemisialufkin Editor120918756 (talk) 18:30, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Artemisialufkin @Figureskatingfan https://www.allkpop.com/article/2010/02/rihanna-thanks-kim-yuna
Can we somehow include this? it's probably not reliable. Editor120918756 (talk) 20:59, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I beefed it up significantly. Let me know if this is enough to keep the section, and also please provide any corrections you feel are needed. Editor120918756 (talk) 21:47, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notes/suggestions[edit]

Note/suggestion 1: Add some commentary about Yuna's image inflating because of the rise of feminism in South Korea in the late 00s, which will definitely fit this article.

Note/suggestion 2: I see this article is on low importance scale for Olympics and Women's sport. I disagree with both, it needs to be high in both cases. Let's get that done.

@Artemisialufkin @Figureskatingfan Editor120918756 (talk) 07:49, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Editor120918756, @Artemisialufkin: Re: #2: Since the Figure Skating Wikiproject doesn't have a formal assessment procedure, any editor can just make the change, or it can be done by consensus. I agree that this article should be re-assessed, to high-importance and to at least B-class.
Ya know, it may not be a bad idea to establish an assessment procedure. Other active WikiProjects have them and I think it may be time for us to adopt one, too. Here's a good example: Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment. I can start the ball rolling on this, although because of the holidays and other stuff going on in my life, it may be two weeks or so. What does everyone think? Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 19:30, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with establishing an assessment procedure for FS, but I thought for the Olympic one, the project Olympic assessment should be used. @Figureskatingfan Editor120918756 (talk) 19:32, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Editor120918756, I agree about using WIkiProject's Olympics' assessment for figure skating articles about the Olympics, like articles about individual Games (i.e., Figure skating at the 2010 Winter Olympics) and ones like Yuzuru Hanyu Olympic seasons. For everything else, I think it'd be a good idea to create our own assessment. If no one objects, I'll start working on it, as well as on an Importance scale and based on this (Wikipedia:WikiProject Olympics/Assessment) since it's pretty standard, in one of my sandboxes. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 23:29, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Figureskatingfan OK, I don't object. Editor120918756 (talk) 18:53, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Everyone, I've been thinking about my proposal to start a formal assessment procedure for this WikiProject the last few days, and after doing a bit more research, I don't think now's the right time. I think we need to be a much larger project for formal assessments. We already have an assessment procedure, the informal one that all projects use (Wikipedia:WikiProject Figure Skating/Assessment), so I think that we should continue to use it for promoting figure skating articles to A-Class status. This is what the general one states about method:

Basic method

For WikiProjects without a formal A-Class review process, the proposal to promote to A-Class should be made on the article's talk page. To be granted, the proposal should be supported by two uninvolved editors, with no significant opposes. The review should also be noted on the project's discussion page.

If we agree, expect in the next few weeks for me to start submitting some of the articles and bios I've worked for A-List reviews here on talk pages. I think that it would solve one of the problems I see with submitting our articles to GAN and FAC: the lack of knowledgeable reviewers about the sport there and the bias against the sport and its athletes, as well as against those of us who work on these articles and bios. What does everyone think? Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 23:11, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Figureskatingfan Christine, I know nothing about any of this. I say, you do what you think is best. Editor120918756 (talk) 14:01, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me! Artemisia (talk) 22:41, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rating for each project[edit]

I think it's fair to evaluate the importance of this article under each project independently. Recently, the importance of this article under project Korea was reduced to mid, and I reverted it - the reason being that this article discusses her cultural importance to the country (and the rest of the world), and I'd say it's significant.

I would agree to keep it low/mid for the rest, though, for the reason given by @Toobigtokale in their edit summary. It's fair to say this particular article isn't that big on discussing her sporting achievements, and therefore is 'low' on figure skating, for instance. Editor120918756 (talk) 11:03, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good to me toobigtokale (talk) 11:58, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Me too. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 22:55, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
