it was really Thapsus or maybe the author meant Thapsos, near Trotilon and Megara Hyblaea????--Nasty plus 11:30, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thapsus and Thapsos are the same word, latinized or hellenized respectively. English traditionally preferred latinized forms. — LlywelynII 03:52, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Punic[edit]

Not sure why it shows up if there was never a Carthaginian settlement in the town, but Huss (1985), p. 570, mentions that the Punic name was MʿRT (𐤌‬𐤏‬𐤓𐤕‬). — LlywelynII 03:52, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
