Notability[edit]

This appears to be a branch office of the main club. No information on the branch can be found on the website supplied, aside from an address. —ShadowRanger (talk|stalk) 20:07, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Missed the second external link specific to the Melbourne club. Still not notable without coverage in reliable, independent sources. —ShadowRanger (talk|stalk) 20:08, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Mention of this club pops up frequently in reference to Melbourne's artistic community. The few members indicated already should be indicative of its notability, as should its address - part of Melbourne's "Golden Mile".--Doug butler (talk) 20:20, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You need to provide references to verify the notability in the context of Melbourne's artistic community. The address is immaterial; in general, location doesn't make something notable just because it happens to be located there. —ShadowRanger (talk|stalk) 20:25, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You set the bar pretty high. I just keep on seeing references to the Savage and Yorick Clubs in artistic contexts and determined to get a useful reference together. The fact that prominent artists are members for 50 years doesn't exactly prove its artistic significance, perhaps the reverse.--Doug butler (talk) 21:42, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"The bar" is the five pillars of Wikipedia; in fact, the elements I mentioned fall entirely under the first pillar. It's nothing personal. A couple of news articles that provide context or history of the organization would suffice. Most of the sources to date appear to be from user editable or primary sources. User editable is a problem (not sure if daao.org is considered reliable); primary isn't necessarily a problem, so long as the notability can be supported without it. —ShadowRanger (talk|stalk) 21:51, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know much about the DAAO, only stumbled across it a month ago, but it's Government funded and supported by the Australian National Gallery and several State and commercial galleries. The few pages I've accessed have proven to be reliable. The article on Judge Frederico came from a newspaper obit and makes interesting reading in the current context. Perhaps my problem is that I used the only Category that came close. There should be one "Australian gentlemen's clubs" or "Clubs for highly successful artists who enjoy hob-nobbing with others of their ilk in comfort"--Doug butler (talk) 22:17, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
