1)It seems his full given name was Manuel Melchor. At least some primary sources use the Manuel given name. I just discovered this, and will try to get some more info
2) Current redaction, IMHO, downplays the events which happened in Madrid during late October - early December 1936 and the real stature of our person and for which he is credited. Just for a starter look at the corresponding article in the spanish wikipedia or, also there, this article about the killings at Paracuellos, or a bit. The minor event depicted here happened after these facts.
3) His post in March 1939 was of Major of Madrid. He got the post after the Casado insurrection
4) After the war, Melchor Rodriguez spent only a year and a half in prison, which was -for his political stature- an extremely light sentence.
5) The phrase "while the majority of his colleagues were either exiled or executed", is little more than weasel-words. For those republican leaders who stayed in Spain, all the penal spectrum was possible (from death penalty to even aquittals). In any case, it's true his was one of the lightest, and he enjoied for the rest of his life a (extremely well deserved) respect from the victors --Wllacer (talk) 12:33, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As for the first, the compound name was a transcription error, my bad.
Wadding thru the "Causa General" i found a curious detail about him. He seems to have run a very special cheka up to March 1937. Instead of an illegal detention center (which often ended in murder), as usual, seems to have been a kind of "safe harbour" for rightists under CNT flag. This does not preclude of him beeing accused of the disappearing of two persons. Normally, this accusation would have sufficed, after the war. to have him shot, but he was exonerated. Don't include this in the article as is based on primary documentation solely (can provide for interested parties the exact location of the expedient)--Wllacer (talk) 12:18, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
