Language point[edit]

An anniversary is counted as ordinal, i.e. first, second, third and not cardinal i.e. one, two, three. There is no need to specify it, as in "Anniversary (ordinal)" It is better to just write 'Anniversary'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.77.216.253 (talk) 03:31, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

There is a tendency on Wikipedia to 'report' on on-going stories without consideration of their significance in the long term. As it stands, the article on the "22nd anniversary" is merely a description of what happened, without much in terms of vouching for its significance or notability. Will we really come back 50 years from now and say, wow, these 22nd Anniversary protests really made a difference! Very likely, these protests will never be mentioned again, not only on this encyclopedia, but also in news media in general, and no one will have the courage or desire to rework the article to an acceptable standard, leaving it to basically rot. This is not to mention that both the 21st and 22nd anniversary articles are in fact, simply about protests in Hong Kong, not about the anniversary per se, so they are not appropriately named either. Previously my intentions were to PROD, but I am going to compromise and ask for them to be merged and scaled down. To me this seems very reasonable and a middle-ground road to take, and I ask that editors who wishes to keep the article (such as its creator) consider these extenuating factors before simply voting it down. I believe that this article, along with that of the 21st Anniversary, should be merged into the general "memorials" article, and condensed to a paragraph or two each. This seems like a sensible solution, and saves us from deleting the other pages. It's also possible that the memorials section within the main article could be edited to include more information. The only challenge will be that, in order to avoid undue weight being given to a particular anniversary, someone will have to step in to curate the page and introduce new material to be more representative of the whole.
