14 years at FCO[edit]

According to this, he "worked for the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) for 14 years. " John Vandenberg (chat) 10:48, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I joined the FCO in Oct 1986 and left in June 2000. I was head of the Iran section from Sept 1998 (beginning just after the rapprochement with Iran over the Salman Rushdie case) until June 2000 (just before the press crackdown that effectively brought president Khatami's reform experiment to a close).

By the way, the most comprehensive review of 'Empire of the Mind' is the one in the Financial Times, by David Gardner 122.162.206.178 (talk) 10:09, 11 August 2009 (UTC) MAx. 122.162.206.178 (talk) 10:05, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Peterhouse college records will show Michael Axworthy as an undergraduate 1982-1985 (I attended during the same years). I've no idea at which college he did his PhD but clearly it was at Cambridge, per his Exeter University profile. I'll try to flesh this one out some time: I've not seen the man since 1985 so there is no significant conflict of interest. - Sitush (talk) 14:06, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
@John Vandenberg: do you have any objections to me trying to expand this, given my note above? - Sitush (talk) 21:52, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No objections at all. John Vandenberg (chat) 18:23, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@John Vandenberg: Thanks, John. I think I'm done now, except for a photo. I do have one here, courtesy of the subject, but I think he'll need to send something to OTRS around the time I upload it. - Sitush (talk) 14:09, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
