Tour itinerary[edit]

A few editors had previously discussed different methods of how to best display information regarding Cirque du Soleil touring shows. That discussion is on the Talk:Totem (Cirque du Soleil) page. Nothing is being promoted, but we are best trying to display general location, time, and format of show within the standards of Wikipedia. I'm actually ok with making the previous years hidden as a standard for the articles, as most tour history is not necessary for the general reader, but I feel current year and future years are read quite often, as this is kept up-to-date with quite a bit of regularity. If that's ok, then 2011 would still be displayed as default until January 2012. All previous years (in the other Cirque articles) would then be defaulted to hidden as you have suggested. Thoughts? It's an interesting thought, but ultimately Talk with Totem should not be specific to Cirque or any other artist, so means nothing. Certainly "bolding the current location" is out of the question. As for your lengthy debate about chronological order, this is a moot point, as tables like this should be made sortable by column.
In any case, everybody is treated equally around here, so what is "agreed" on a Cirque talk page carries no weight at all. We should follow the existing (neutral) wikipedia guidelines, not make up our own depending on which artist we like.
Finally, I have again removed the green boxes. Colour should not be used to convey information. Plus, until dates are published outside of NA, there is no point in trying to differentiate them! The Totem talk page was about adding coherence to the articles as a whole, no different than infoboxes are standardized, yet made flexible for different usages. I do agree everyone around here is treated equally, which is why I felt I wanted to discuss the changes. =) Also, the Wikipedia guidelines are being utilized, as per the chronological order is one of such standards. As for the color boxes, they are used to convey information (per Template:Colorbox), as the instances they are being utilized are to group geographic regions. I can relate to your comment about removing the 'orange' "NA" colorboxes for now, as you are correct that all the tour dates are currently in North America, therefore no distinction is currently necessary. Tour Itinerary (Dates)[edit]

I recently reverted the tour dates schedule to have an additional column (referring to a start and end date). Although the format posted by ‎BobDylanFan1994 does include every single date of the performance, I'm not certain that that is necessary. The infobox already displays the number of shows to the right, so having every date seems non-essential. If it's broken down that far, then why not add if there was 1 or 2 performances for that night as well? I think finding the right balance is critical. I will concede having every date does provide more information, but information that I'm not certain is essential. Furthermore, and more importantly IMHO, I do like the new table formatting because it also provides a distinct view into the region, country, and even arena the show was performed. The problem, however, is that in large tour areas, you lose readability, and therefore the usefulness of the table. When the format used shows every day, you cannot see the country in large groups (e.g. Nov 2011 - Mar 2012). By collapsing the data into a single row with a start/end date, this improves reading and therefore usefulness. It's also worth mentioning, that Cirque tour itinerary formatting has been discussed multiple times, and another reason for having the start/end dates is that it more closely resembles the other pages' formats. If there are consistent examples across Wikipedia that have the single date format and/or manual of styles that have recommendations for such, I'd like to hear them, especially because this is a different type of tour than what Cirque usually does. What does a travelling concert tour being performed by the actual, live artist have to do with a travelling tribute concert/show to a dead artist?

I would hardly consider comparing the financial earnings between both, (DNA) tour with a the Immortal tribute tour... Different dynamics at play!
