Lifetime Sales

I've worked out that throughout his entire career (as a solo artist and as a member of The Jackson Five) Jackson has sold around 400 million records world-wide. Lifetime album sales in the U.S stand at over 100 million - although Motown never registered with the RIAA therefore all of their recordings remain uncertified.

Solo Sales

Michael's career really took off as a solo artist in 1979, with the release of Off The Wall. And as a solo artist, under Epic Record's, he sold 310 million records world-wide (225 million albums & 85 million singles) Michael sold 27 million records with the combined album and single sales of Off The Wall Michael sold 124 million records with the combined album and single sales of Thriller Michael sold 56 million records with the combined album and single sales of Bad Michael sold 42 million records with the combined album and single sales of Dangerous Michael sold 34 million records with the combined album and single sales of HIStory Michael sold 9 million records with the combined album and single sales of Blood On The Dance Floor Michael sold 11 million records with the combined album and single sales of Invicible Michael sold 7 million records with the combined album and single sales of Number Ones

So his combined solo single sales exceed that of 70 million world-wide?

I think that "You rock my world sold more then just 1million, because just at the first moth to release it sold mor then 2millions, so it must be like 3millions, or something like that!

that's right becuz At mediatraffic they say: You Rock My World - Michael Jackson Epic - 4.103.000 points thats something like my love from justin timberlake, and he sold more then 1 million DOWNLOADS in the USA alone. That means the total sales are around 2 - 3 million.

Most (if not all) of the Michael Jackson singles' articles on here have the same issues: trivia sections, weasel words, and little or no references. Can't we do something about this? Anthony Rupert (talk) 05:37, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Adult Contemporary

Is it really necessary to place the number for where the single charted on the AC chart right under the number for the Hot 100? In my opinion, a seperate section of the table should have the AC number on it, not right under the Hot 100 number. When it's under the Hot 100 number, it makes me confused and re-read it, as I'm sure it does for other casual readers. CarpetCrawler^{message me} 05:32, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Song missing in the singles discography - "The lady in my life" (1983)

If I'm not mistaken, Michael Jackson's single "The lady in my life" (1983) is missing from the discography. If so, could someone please add this song? I'm having a hard time with the tables and I don't want to mess the page up. Many thanks!

Gone Too Soon -- released in the US

Not sure who noted "Gone Too Soon" as having not been released in the US, but I'm pretty sure I saw a cassette single of it in US record stores in 1993.

Someone Put Your Hand Out - missing from list

I don't know if limited editions are eligible for this list but what is missing from this list was "Someone Put Your Hand Out", which was released in the as a casette single as a promotion by his sponsor Pepsi in 1992. Chartpositions Germany (De)

Some Chartpositions for Germany aree completely wrong. It is easy to in comparision to the summary down below. Got to be there and Ben were not No. 1s. I'm quite sure they weren't even released. You are not alone was not No. 1. The others seem to be o.k., but should be checked because of the mistakes. Perhaps just editing problems. I can't correct it, cause i don't have the information. But i know Michael only had to no. 1s in Germany. Earth Song and They don't care about us. "Thriller"

"Thriller" (all cuts) had spent 11 weeks at No.1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. But on the chart here of Michael's singles discography I see #44?

Suggest new section : "Promo-only singles"

I just removed all the songs that were never released, as they have no place here in an article called Michael Jackson singles discography. I nearly also removed the "promo singles" which were also never released, but I thought I'd desicuss it here first. A DJ playing a song on the radio/nightclub is quite different from a single that you can actually buy. I think that's better to leave the notes and not to create a new section, because in some countries, the promo singles were released in physical format. For example Dangerous. In some countries is only promo, in other was a single in Limited Edition. SJ (talk) 01:00, 02 January 2010 (UTC)

That information about Dangerous is unclear and unreferenced both here and in the song's article. But anyway, since you seem to admit that they are two different things, I'd say that if a song got an actual release (and in such cases would often have got an additional promo release), it should be included in the main list. If it wasn't released (and was therefore purely promo) then it should come in a different table. The criteria for inclusion should be whether it was a single or not. If it wasn't, then it shouldn't be in this article. At the very least, there should be an extra column to clarify what type of single it was. The best options are therefore to include them here on their own (either in section 2 or in a new section), or otherwise create Michael Jackson songs that achieved promo status. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.141.22.50 (talk) 00:43, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Indeed. I'd also argue that the silly superscripts can be removed entirely. Let's look at them:

¹ "Promo-only release." As agreed, not needed in the first table.
² "Released only outside of the U.S. and Canada." The country of release is clear from looking at the table. If you want to make it more obvious, this could be achieved via "n/a" in the right column Some songs are UK only, or France/Italy only. We can't cover every possibility.
³ "Released only in the U.S." See 2.
⁴ "Never officially released." Not needed. No release means it will be removed from this list.

Simplification of superscripts

Why the obsession with cluttering up the notes section?! If a single was "Released only outside of the U.S. and Canada", this much will be obvious simply because it didn't chart in those countries. A single was either released (somewhere) or it was not. If it is not available in one or more countries, then so be it. I can name literally around 20 different combinations of countries where a single was or was not released. Is anybody suggesting we have a different note go cover them all? Of course not. That's why most of those can be deleted. Large numbers of superscripts should be avoided. It is much quicker and easier to understand the tables if you don't have to keep scrolling up and down to see what the numbers mean. I've found out that "Mind is the Magic" was released in a CD for Siegfried and Roy's Las Vegas show then later released as a single since March 2010 via Amazon.com. Dubious- "Human Nature" UK placing

This is listed as having reached #62 in the UK, but the article for Human Nature states that it was never released in the UK and the Guinness British Hit Singles and Albums book (which uses the industry standard UK Singles Chart) does not include it at all (although it wouldn't be listed if it hadn't reached the top 75). Orphaned references in Michael Jackson singles discography

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Michael Jackson singles discography's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
