Unclear[edit]

The intro contains this abstruse sentence: "His work seeks to address the Marxist idea of labour and the value of the object, which Marx delineated as a "rupture" of meaning." That is a difficult idea that may not mean much to the reader. I went ahead and removed the sentence, but if anyone disagrees please voice your opinion. I agree. That may be a true statement, however it's an unsourced analysis, and it really doesn't belong in the intro, let alone the second sentence. Does anyone even know where that comes from? We could reword it better and add it later on in the article, but I'm not convinced it's necessarily the best way to describe his work. The "value of the object" is clear enough in Kelley's work, and you can give it a Marxist analysis, but are we certain that this is Kelley's intent? The sentence implies that this is not a critical reading of his work but Kelley's intent. The second clause is obviously an attempt to explain the first, but it's not helpful. Leave it out for now. freshacconci talktalk 15:19, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If it has a place in the article I think it needs background explanation. I don't think we can assume "Marxist analysis" is a topic the average reader has a great deal of familiarity with. That sort of "analysis" also ideally should be sourced to Kelley, or even better to a particular work by him. The particular work depicted in the article would be most ideal, but that may be asking for too much.
Armed with the theory that ostensibly relates to the work, and a good example of the work itself, the reader may be equipped to independently and competently evaluate both the theory and the work. Bus stop (talk) 16:14, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
