Mini-peer review November 2007

This is a nice start. Good to see references/inline citations in place. The article could definitely use a few images, diagrams, maps etc. It would be good to have a picture of a chariot, the kopesh, the distinctive round-topped shield etc. Probably should talk about the battle of Qadesh, military injuries suffered by Tao II. Most sections need expansion to add more information. We also have Military history of Ancient Egypt, and almost certainly we should merge with that article. I'm not sure what the ideal title would be. Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 03:15, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Also, we have article Military history of Ancient Egypt, and these two should probably be merged. Not sure what the final title should be. Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 05:07, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Merge

Hmmm, which would merge with which? Personally I think that the information from Military history of Ancient Egypt should be merged with this article, as it's longer and better split up. --θnce θn this island Speak! 02:03, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

I think this article should be merged with Military history of Ancient Egypt, because all other articles about ancient nations' warfare have the name "Military history of ...". Also, this article may be better split up, but the other has more information, ending with the Ptolemies while this one ends with Thutmosis III. User:Super Knuckles 00:20, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

I can see a strong case for either title. "Military history of..." suggests the article will tell primarily a chronological story, whereas "Ancient Egyptian warfare" suggests focus on types of weapons and tactics. Perhaps the military history wikiproject can suggest a guideline on what to call it. I think the ancient Egyptian military is characterized by the types of weapons and style of combat, and that is how I would suggest looking at it. Sure there are changes over time as the military evolves, but I don't see history as the defining characteristic of their military. Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 02:25, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Military history... This article has historical info that belongs in the history article. Also, the historical developments in the tactics and impedimenta of war are part of Egypt's military history. --Phyesalis (talk) 23:12, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I'm going to be bold and merge the two. I've already started moving the ref'd content over to "Military history" mostly to conform to WP precedents on other cultures military articles. If there is a major issue with this we can always move the merged article to the old title. -Phyesalis (talk) 19:59, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
The result of this discussion was merge. Permanent link to most recent version for archival purposes. -Phyesalis (talk) 20:03, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
