Ethnicity[edit]

We need to verify her ethnicity before adding it. I've read all the news articles in the references section and none talk about Husain's ethnicity. Two of them mentioned that she and her mother are Urdu-speakers.

  • "Then, as now, the UAE seemed to be dominated by south Asians of all walks of life – testament to the Gulf's long trading links with the Indian subcontinent. Everyone from advisers to the sheikh to shopkeepers to labourers seemed to hail from India or Pakistan, with the taxi driver corps dominated by Pashtuns from the North-West Frontier. They were known as men with a strong sense of community – if one died, the others would collect money to fly the body home and compensate the family for their loss of income – and they would never, ever, accept a fare from my Urdu-speaking mother." [1]
  • "The daughter of a Pakistani surgeon, Husain was born in Britain, but grew up in the United Arab Emirates, returning at the age of 12 to attend the Kent public school, Cobham Hall. A "liberal" Muslim, since the July London bombings she has been determined to publicise her faith and speaks exclusively in her mother tongue, Urdu, to Rafael" [2]

There are about a dozen or so different ethnic groups in Pakistan so which one does she belong to? I'm removing the "Punjabi" because if she was that then her mother tongue would have been Punjabi language.--Fareed30 (talk) 01:21, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Style[edit]

She seems to me a member of the John Humphrys school of interviewing: intimidating the interviewee instead of getting to the facts. 31.52.253.98 (talk) 10:15, 19 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Pakistan[edit]

Why is Pakistan referred to here as the 'Islamic Republic of Pakistan'? I know that is its full and official name, but surely the convention is to just call it 'Pakistan', just like Sweden is called 'Sweden' and not 'Kingdom of Sweden', or Brazil is 'Brazil' and not 'Federative Republic of Brazil'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.89.131.57 (talk) 13:08, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Journalism Career[edit]

Article uses criticism of Husain from the Daily Mail in suggesting she was a spokesperson 'for Jeremy Corbyn.' Should be deleted or changed - whilst the Daily Mail has a right to criticise Husain its editorial line was very much anti-Corbyn and pro-Conservative so was likely to criticise any challenging interview of a prominent Tory politician. The Mail also frequently criticises the BBC for a supposed liberal bias. Unless Husain was rebuked by independent watchdogs or the BBC the noting of this seems irrelevant. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7D:13B:B900:7D21:1B80:C9BA:642E (talk) 17:01, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting that the BBC's Political Editor Laura Kuenssberg was formally rebuked by the BBC itself, yet that isn't discussed on her page. So why is a rabidly right-biased newspaper's opinion relevant here? https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/15000158.bbc-trust-to-review-own-decision-upholding-complaint-about-corbyn-shoot-to-kill-report/ 2.28.151.246 (talk) 08:26, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DoB[edit]

Husain said on air on 15 January that we have her DoB wrong by one month, implying that it should be March - see [3] from 40 seconds in. In any case, we need a citation for it. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 16:43, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
