Date built?[edit]

The article says 1739, whereas the external link says ca. 1742. Where did the 1739 date come from? - Dunc0029 (talk) 21:46, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The NHL nomination papers say it was built in 1739. It's unclear why the Trustees claim it was built c. 1742 on their website, considering they probably had a hand in filling out the nomination papers. Magic♪piano 20:29, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Comments: @Magicpiano:: Overall, a very good article, and appearing to meet all of the qualifications for GA status without too much tweaking.

"Before the arrival of British colonists in the area that is now southern Berkshire County, Massachusetts, it was inhabited by communities of the Mahican tribal confederation." - I almost feel that this would be better put as "Before the arrival of British colonists, the area that is now southern Berkshire County, Massachusetts was inhabited by communities of the Mahican tribal confederation." I'll leave that up to you, though.

"a township of six square miles" - this likely needs a comparative conversion to metric, but since it's in word form I didn't want to throw in a numerical template. I'll leave that up to you.

"She wanted to live outside the village, so Sergeant had a new house, the subject of this article, built on Prospect Hill, overlooking the village" -- I can't decide whether I think breaking the fourth wall in an article -- and mentioning that this is in fact an encyclopedia article in the text -- is my new favorite thing, or something that will rain down derision from other editors. What the heck, I like it, and it's very reminiscent of 18th century expository writing anyways.

"Jonathan Edwards, a famous minister during the Great Awakening" - Not sure how I feel about this. I think this sort of down-plays his role in the GA a little -- like saying "George Washington, a famous general during the American Revolutionary War..."

P.S.: What do you think should be done about Mission House? It seems like there are enough Mission Houses to need a disambig. I mean, just off the first page of results, there's Mission Houses Museum, Mission House (Mackinac Island), Moravian Brethren Mission House, Old Mission House, First Mission House, Hermannsburg Mission House, Bodden Town Mission House, Grand Cayman, Mission (station), etc. I mean, I'm sure Mission House in New Zealand is important and all locally, but it seems like Mission House should be a disambiguation page, or there should at least be some hatnotes. Hmm. I had'nt even noticed that Mission House (disambiguation) doesn't exist. It's also probably debatable about whether the existing Mission House should have primacy, but I'm willing to concede it in the interest of countering systemic bias (it appears to be a nationally significant property, similar to this one, and both get similar low amounts of traffic).
