The 'History' and 'About the University sections' were copied right from the Universities' Website. Most of the material came from these two pages: http://www.missouristate.edu/presidentialsearch/aboutsmsu.htm and http://www.missouristate.edu/presidentialsearch/aboutsmsu.htm

Renaming and page move

After reading the details of the renaming under Issues, it looks like I jumped the gun a few days on the move from Southwest Missouri State University -> Missouri State University. I'll hold off on changing the actual text of the article until next week when the change is official. Kenj0418 14:45, Mar 11, 2005 (UTC)

New content

I added more info in the Issues catagory under the sexual orientation paragraph as well as added the References section. Durbinmj 01:11, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

I updated the enrollment figures and am also adding a History section.

Marching band

I'm somewhat disappointed that the marching band is not listed anywhere, considering the Pride Band has worldwide fame and was the honor band in the 2008 Tournament of Roses Parade... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scorponis (talkcontribs) 03:55, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Presidential theft hearsay

What about the president stealing champagne - I've heard about this but haven't found anything about it. Anyone know anything? 173.22.123.35 (talk) 18:06, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Mountain Grove campus

What's the deal with the mountain grove campus? I can't find them under the listing of accredited institutions by Missouri Department of Higher Education or the National Accreditation database. Does this campus give out degrees? Grey Wanderer (talk) 20:07, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

It's part of the College of Natural and Applied Sciences and deals mostly with the ag department. It's not really a seperate institution. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jahoclave (talkcontribs) 17:42, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! I updated the wording to reflect this. Grey Wanderer (talk) 01:56, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Missouri State University System

I bit the bullet and created the page Missouri State University System based on this and WikiProject Universities and Colleges. There is some confusion because there are only two degree granting institutions in the system: the Springfield campus (MSU) a four-year comprehensive university and the West Plains campus a two-year community college. There are two other physical "campuses" one is the fruit research station in Mountain Grove the other is a branch campus in China. A tiff over enrollment figures spurred me to do this, it was becoming too unclear what was the system enrollment and what was they physical springfield campus enrollment. The formate of the page is based on the University of Missouri System page, but it has been modified because the MSU system is a little bit more complex. Thanks. List of Missouri State University alumni

Alumni should be added to the List of Missouri State University alumni page. Grey Wanderer (talk) 21:17, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Picture of the Bill R. Foster and Family Recreation Center

If there is an available picture of the newly completed recreation center, I think that will be an excellent addition to the main article. Philipmj24 (talk) 04:22, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

Agreed. I was on campus recently and the building is beautiful. However, I didn't have the foresight to take a picture. Would an editor in Springfield be able to take one? Grey Wanderer (talk) 03:45, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Conference realignment

The conference realignment paragraph is without sources and full of speculation. If someone would like to take a crack at it it could be improved. I'm not knowledgeable enough on the topic so after a few days I will probably delete it. Grey Wanderer (talk) 03:49, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Propose the removal of "Controversy" section

Controversy section is unnecessary and incidental to the topic. A brief look at other pages in Wikipedia:WikiProject Universities reveals that no other articles contain a similar section. Definitely does not help it meet featured article status. Sources used often (not entirely) report that a policy exists or was changed and does not reflect the controversy used in the text of the article. Further, the section seems to be a recurring issue for neutrality as well as a frequent target of edit wars.

Will leave discussion open until the end of September then proceed with deletion if there are no objections or further discussion. Usobe (talk) 23:45, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

Section was deleted just now after discussion and support expressed. Usobe (talk) 20:01, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

if it is removed as a section the sourced and relevant material should be incorporated into the body of the article. Grey Wanderer (talk) 12:58, 15 November 2014 (UTC)
Reverted edit by Grey Wanderer (talk). Deletion was completed according to practices as similar as possible for deletion of pages, as no system exists for the deletion of s section. Discussion was open for 49 days with the only feedback given in support of the deletion. As stated in the rational for the proposing deletion, even the sourced material is only vaguely relevant to the page. Due to the prior nature of edit warring of the section and portions of the section, I would appreciate if this dialogue continued on the talk page as opposed to another round of reversions.Usobe (talk) 07:48, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
All of the reasons thus given are weak if not wrong. I agree that a controversies section is the about worst way organize the content but that does not mean it should be deleted. The content should be incorporated into the body of the article as it is all well sourced and does in fact contribute to the article being a featured article contrary to your thought above. Additionally, just because something is a magnet for an edit war or controversial does not mean it shouldn't be included. Could you imagine Wikipedia without an article on Israel-Palestine or same-sex marriage? Sourced material is directly relevant to the page. If this information was not sourced I would encourage immediate removal. But since it is removal is akin to whitewashing. Are there other reasons you think it should be removed? Missouri State Online is part of Missouri State Outreach. I suggest deleting Missouri State Online. [1]

The university awarded 4,699 degrees in 2017. [2]

The Springfield campus had 749 full-time instructional faculty in fall 2019, of which 49 percent are female [3] and 50 percent were tenured. [4] The student-faculty ratio is 21-to-1. [5]

Where to cover athletics facilities

Currently the article covers Plaster Sports Complex and the athletic facilities both in the "athletics" section and the "campus" section. Should be one or the other. I would suggest under athletics, but am open to any input. Grey Wanderer (talk) 19:00, 31 July 2019 (UTC)

Suggested addition to Academics section

The university is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, as well as by 23 professional associations, including the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), National Association of Schools of Music, National Association of Schools for Public Affairs and Administration, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the American Chemical Society, the Council on Social Work Education and the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business.
