Possible citations for minorly improving and expanding the article[edit]

I've found a few citations which could be useful for future editors to minorly expand or otherwise improve the article or related articles. None of these sources are a wealth of information, so take it or leave it, but I'm leaving them here in case anyone could use them in the future. They are:

  • Thomason, Michael (2010). "Sharing the Heritage". Historic Mobile: An Illustrated History of the Mobile Bay Region (First ed.). Historical Publishing Network. p. 91. ISBN 978-1935377238. LCCN 2010934791. This book just contains a short paragraph about the building.
  • Roberts, L. Craig (2015). "Mystic Societies and Balls". Mardi Gras in Mobile. The History Press. ISBN 978-1626197282. LCCN 2014953423. This one's usage would be very niche, but essentially all it says is that the atrium has been used as a venue for the Mobile Mardi Gras ball.

Massive page error corrected[edit]

This building has never been named the Samuel L. Jones Government Plaza. I am once again removing that false information from the page. The building is owned by MOBILE COUNTY and in a completely honorary action the Mobile City Council passed a resolution for an outgoing mayor. The Mobile City Council has/had absolutely no authority to rename the building, in fact, the city rents its space in the building from the County. The news article cited as support for the building naming information clearly states that Government Plaza cannot be renamed without Mobile County Commission voting to do so and that government body never even considered such an action.

I have added a second source to a news video which clarifies the section. I will edit the section with your comments. AntoineHound (talk) 16:13, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
While the council may have passed such a vote in honor of the outgoing mayor, it doesn't appear that the renaming occurred in any official capacity. As far as I can see, all recent references to the plaza on the county website refer to it simply as "Government Plaza"[1] or occasionally as "Mobile Government Plaza." [2], [3]. Beyond the lack of evidence that the name change was implemented, WP:COMMONNAME would also apply, and the only instances of it being referred to as Sam Jones Government Plaza seems to be from mirrored sources from Wikipedia. Wouldn't looking at the government website be original research WP:NOR? More references:

Those sources are simply reporting on the council renaming, and they're all from 2013. Noting the reality of what a government website calls it's civic center in recent announcment and documents is far from WP:OR. It's perfectly fine for the article to mention the council vote, but the burden of proof is on you to adequately source that the official (or common) name actually changed.
