What has happened to Moloko?[edit]

What's with the almost complete lack of dates? strange..

does anyone kno what has happened to MOLOKO? have thay split or is Roisin jst going solo for a bit?Junior Aspirin 21:22, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

will split out roisin solo stuff at a later date Junior Aspirin 22:04, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Roísín apparantly hasn't spoken to Mark in a while, plus they're no longer together, so it's safe to assume they've split.

Yep, that would seem to be the case, although I don't think there has been a definite 'never'. In response to the question "have we heard the last of Moloko?" in an interview last year, Murphy responded "I’m just not sure. There’s a lot that happens when people split. There’s no full stop." That somewhat contradicts the more optimistic note struck on the official site, which remarks:
"The first, but least important, thing to know about Statues is that it’s the first album Roisin Murphy and Mark Brydon have made as friends rather than lovers. What is most important is that they chose to pursue their creative partnership and that Statues is a focussed, direct and uplifting album."
However, that was in 2003, whereas the interview is from 2005, so probably more reliable. Slideyfoot 11:17, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Uhm - firstly, Mark and Róisín did make a couple of acoustic appearances on radio shows in July/August 06 to promote their Best of compilation. So it's not like they're not on speaking terms (as also confirmed in a couple of posts by Rósín on her own website). Secondly, Róisín herself said on her website (about 1 year ago): "why do people long for finite descions? i worked long and hard in moloko and im not prepared to dig a six foot hole and bury it. a 'best of' was not my idea. its the last record for me on this label and that is for sure!" source: [1]. So while there are no imminent plans for Moloko and Ms Murphy is currently working on her 2nd solo album, she is usually keen to stress that Moloko are not necessarily finished.--afromme 16:41, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Leftfield[edit]

The link to leftfield is rather strange, as it leads to the band page, not really a description of leftfield as it is used in the article (musical style). The disambiguation page doesn't have any information that would clear matters up, so what to do...?--Deadworm222 17:54, August 28, 2005 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Moloko-Do you like my tight sweater.jpg[edit]

I know that in greek language "Moloko" means "idiot" and while in Greece they used name "Idiot" instead of "Moloko". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Omicron Persey 8 (talkcontribs) 19:55, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation?[edit]

How is the name pronounced? Like in Russian - /malako/, or? Thanks. --V111P 07:25, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd always wondered that. I just watched an interview Róisín Murphy gave on YouTube; she seemed to pronounce it /mʊˈloʊkoʊ/ so I edited the page accordingly (prior to that there was no indication). I think that pronunciation holds true for most English dialects too. If anyone's got more phonetics experience and wants to make changes, feel free. I do think it's very useful to include pronunciation though, as I've been mispronouncing it for years, stressing the first syllable. Mburke8 19:17, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think the first 'ʊ' should be 'ə'. --V111P 04:53, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, Yes. Done. Mburke8 13:21, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You can hear Roisin Murphy introduce herself as Roisin from Moloko (to hear how she pronounces Moloko; albeit with an Irish accent) in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6McUebkyLUE . The standard English pronunciation of it, however, would be [məˌɫoʊ.koʊ] phonetically, or /məloʊkoʊ/ phonemically, with stress on the second syllable.Nqr9 (talk) 10:08, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation /mʊˈloʊkoʊ/ is perhaps correct as for the band name, but not for Russian word "молоко". The right one is /malak'o/ you could hear it here; http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%D0%BC%D0%BE%D0%BB%D0%BE%D0%BA%D0%BE —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vak (talkcontribs) 10:28, 8 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Electronic Sheffield (?)[edit]

I didn't know Sheffield was now electronic, although I think I recall them declaring themselves "Nuclear Free" once upon a time ...... Gwladys24 (talk) 16:40, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

History of band section - 'sweater'[edit]

The statement that Murphy allegedely used the pick-up line "Do you like my tight sweater? See how it fits my body!", to Brydon at a party in Sheffield.

Really? Born and raised in Ireland til 12, then England and she uses the word 'sweater?' Not pullover? Jumper? Never in my life have I heard an English person say 'sweater' except in order to be understood by an American. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Khahla (talkcontribs) 13:07, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
