Typography?[edit]

Page sizes[edit]

"A4 and Letter are not that different in size that there would be 200 more on A4 than on Letter." ... but that's not what had been written. I'm not sure whether someone is missing something but it seems that the Moon type glyph has just shrunk. Originally the text had been 900 characters per 10 in × 12 in page. To obtain the 700 charcaters per A4 page figure I just compared the areas of each sheet. 900 / (10 in × 12 in) ≈ 725 / (210 mm × 297 mm) then round to the nearest hundred. Note how US letter (8½ in × 11 in) hadn't been mentioned. What had been stated was that there would be 200 fewer on A4 than on 10 in × 12 in. Yes, letter would be about the same as A4: 900 / (10 in × 12 in) = 701¼ / (8½ in × 11 in). I'll go and edit the page. Jimp 16:29, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good questions ... I have no idea what margins, point size, etc. the original calculation used, all I did was to do a rough conversion to A4 based on relative paper sizes. Perhaps we should tag it with a {{fact}}. Jimp 01:13, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ningpo and other languages.[edit]

Does anyone have more information about how Moon shapes were assigned to Ningpo or other languages? I wrote about this in my preliminary proposal to encode Moon script and it's one of the things that prevents further progress. -- Evertype·✆ 15:52, 19 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It seems odd that that would be the big stumbling block, since the non-English usages (more than a hundred years ago) seem to have been somewhat experimental or transitory. Sounds like you need the help of someone who is a real expert in winkling out information from 19th-century China missions literature... AnonMoos (talk) 02:40, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Textual evidence says that gospels and other literature was printed in applications of Moon applied to other languages. The image at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Moon-prayer.jpg shows some of these extensions and what I have been able to analyse is in the proposal. I find it astonishing that someone of Mr Everson's versatility and renown should delay the process of Unicoding Moon on the alleged pretext of ignorance of the system's historical use. There seems a great rush to Unicode alphabets used by global terror fraternities but not so much, it would appear, regarding writing systems for the disabled. Moon seems to fill a unique gap, in the sense that it is highly inter-legible between blind and seeing literate communities.--5.150.92.174 (talk) 12:59, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
