1977 Tidy Towns Competition controversy[edit]

Some editor persistently reverts my following edit:

"Multyfarnham was named winner of the controversial 1977 edition of the Irish Tidy Towns Competition after the contest's initial winner, Andújar, was stripped of the title following revelations that the town was actually in Spain, hence making its entry ineligible."

As anyone even slightly familiar with the 1970's era (or "The Problematic Years") of the Irish Tidy Towns Competition knows all too well, the '77 edition of the competition (like many other editions of that decade) was plunged into controversy when, as stated above, the Andalusian town of Andújar was fraudulently awarded the title. It's difficult to find references to this infamous affair but that is of course due to the concerted effort on the part of the Tidy Towns Grandees to expunge the incident from the history books (one method being to bully historians by threatening libel suits). I would be grateful if some brave editor did manage to locate even a single respectable reference to this shameful blight on our national history but I fear that the Grandees with their contemptible revisionist agenda will win again. Hi. You appear to be in the wrong place. You might want to consider Uncyclopedia. Perhaps read Uncyclopedia:How To Be Funny And Not Just Stupid before switching codes. Guliolopez (talk) 23:10, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Never heard of it but for the day that's in it (April's Fool's Day) could you please refrain from reverting my edits? I think you would otherwise be committing the sin of cultural insensitivity. In any case, whilst not always 100% reflecting the tedious minutiae of reality in the strictest —however arbitrary — sense of the word, I do think my edits do mirror with remarkable fidelity a kind of higher as well as deeper reality that only those with demonstrable artistic vision are able to penetrate, though almost all of us are able to appreciate. Have a think over it. MichelHouellebecq10 (talk) 08:07, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
