Alright, I added a short line on Michael Learns to Rock in the Pop section(with references), considering the fact that they are not really a rock band, and I hope by that I havent offended anyone. I just thought Danes should really be proud and should give credit and consequently market a product of theirs which has struck gold far from home, thousands of miles away - in Asia.

I'm sorry I'm just curious, I'm not Danish, being Indian, and as an Asian, whenever I hear the mention of Denmark, two things come to my mind immediately - Denmark's status as the happiest country in the world and Michael Learns to Rock. And yeah maybe, Aqua, Whigfield and a lesser known fact for me, which is Lars Ulrich from Metallica being Danish. I must admit I haven't heard a dime about the likes of Mercyful Fate, Alphabeat and least of all, Mew! But ok, they must really rule the music waves in Denmark, and as an outsider I can not argue with that. But why would you not make special mention of a band that is way popular than the aforementioned artists outside Denmark, even though it might only be in Asia? I believe Michael Learns to Rock deserve a special line telling about their 9 million odd sales in Asia, only topped by Aqua. I'm going to add this line in the Rock section complete with references. Article Structure?

Just curious why "Bent Fabricius-Bjerre" has his own main category heading? It seems he should be subsumed under another category of music ( Jazz maybe?). I don't know enough about the subject, but the page outline suffers when there are headings such as "Classical" and "Jazz", and then a heading naming an individual (unless they were credited as the father of Danish music perhaps???).

I put him under pop, since his "Jazz aspect" is leaning heavily towards popjazz if such a thing exists. And you are right, he does not deserve a heading--Thorseth (talk) 19:50, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Contemporary Danish music

Contemporary Danish musicHaving read the article about the music of Denmark, and being from Denmark myself, I must admit I felt a little disappointed that there was no mentioning of the importance of the Danish language in contemporary Danish music. Living abroad I am always amazed to find just how many Danish-speaking, rather than English-speaking, songs hit the top of the charts back home.

This characteristic, it should be made clear, cannot be ascribed to any kind of nationalist trend nor to any deliberate isolationist policy but has more to do with longstanding traditions of rock, pop, jazz and other forms of contemporary music in schools and in society in general. For example, rock music has long been part of education in the special Danish "folkehøjskole" (people's high school a century old tradition aiming to broaden the scope of education beyond primary and secondary levels). And Danish rock songs are often incorporated into Church ceremonies.

Artists, furthermore, enjoy both government and private support through various funding schemes and fairly large and internationnaly renowned festivals, such as "Roskildefestivalen" (the Roskilde Festival), which features a number of top international artists and has an audience of more than 70.000, the "Copenhagen Jazz Festival", a two-week city-wide event with thousands of free jazz concerts taking place in the summer and attracting the best of the world's jazz artists, and, on a smaller scale, "Grøn Koncert" (Green Concert), an annual charitable rock concert sponsored by the Carlsberg breweries.

Moreover, government sponsored (hence advertisement free) tv and radio channels are platforms for a more varied contemporary music scene than found on commercial networks. Try, for example, tuning in on the netradio services provided by DR P3 (DR being "Danmarks Radio", equivalent to BBC).

Aqua in both Rock and Pop

Aqua are named in the first sentence of both the rock and pop category. I think they should be removed from the Rock section; their music isn't rock-like at all... 82.32.65.149

What about Dúné and Spleen United??

Answer: WELL What about them? What criteria should be used for inclusion? I think the selection is fairly good, the article will sink under 2 many mentions and the article does mention the bands that people outside the country might have heard/of. I would like to add Valravn and maybe Svartsot, under danish folk/crossover where Sorten Muld is the only one mentioned. There are other bands who are commited to modern folk and likewise in rock/pop but have no big audience. Should they be mentioned because they are treading ground that others are not. I think so. But who should decide which bands too mention?

Under Byen, Mercenary, Niels Skousen, Povl Dissing/Benny Andersen, CV Jørgensen, Allan Olsen, Love Shop, Mnemic, Nortt, tv-2, gnags, Nikolaj Nørlund, Malk De Koijn, Camille Jones, Jesper Kyd, Of the Wand and the Moon, ULC, Harald Haugaard, Buxtehude, are all exemplas on artists with convincing niches that could or could not be mentioned as could Future 3, Goodiepal, Rumpistol.

Svend Asmussen, Ben Fabric, Nina & Frederik, Cy Nicklin, Billy Cross, Keld Heick, Beefeaters, Savage Rose, Sort Sol, Kliché, The Sandmen, Fielfraz, Alberte, Cut 'n' move, Dúné, Spleen United, Sys Bjerre, WhoMadeWho, Saybia, Figurines, Oh No Ono, and more are other examples that are also important in understanding the mainstream development of danish popular music. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.184.140.180 (talk) 08:06, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Pop section is a mess

Most of the pop section is a completely useless list of bands, many with little or no significance. Links to nonexistent pages abound and all requirements of notability or references seem to have been forgotten. I suggest removing all list like material and keeping only the information given in a notable context. I agree that the Pop section is a mess. I'm not familiar with any of the artists named except for Tina Dico. I edited part of what had been written about her. This was the original as I found it before my edits:
"Tina Dico is a Danish Singer-songwriter who have won several prices including awards at the Danish Music Awards in 2004 and 2006. Most famous songs are "Welcome Back Colour", "Count To Ten", "Copenhagen", "Warm Sand", "Nobody's Man", "Sacre Coeur", "Open Wide", "On The Run" and latest her new song "Moon To Let". She is also very popular in UK after she had been a part of the band Zero 7 back in 2003 with whom she also made the popular song "Home". Tina is also known as the owner of her own record label called Finest Gramophone."
I question the listing of her "most famous songs". There are no facts to back up this statement. I also question that she is "very popular in UK". "Very popular"? By whose standards? I have personal knowledge that she is popular in the UK, but personal knowledge is not an acceptable standard in Wikipedia.
It is apparent that this article was not written by someone with a mastery of English. That is perfectly acceptable as long as it is well-written. This article is not well-written. I do not wish to disparage anyone's work. Someone took the time and trouble to write about Danish Music and I appreciate that; nonetheless, I will continue to re-write and edit some spelling and grammar errors. Chilkdren section is a miss

Blues music of Denmark

There should be a section on the Blues music of Denmark. There are many talented blues musicians in or from Denmark and the musical genre has been long-lived and enduring. I might probably write up something later, but will list a few bands and musicians here to inspire:

  • Peter Thorup, Kenn Lending, Poul Frimer, Uffe Steen, James Loveless, Mike Andersen, Søren Sko, Tim Lothar, Peter Nande, Birgitte Laugesen, M.C. Hansen, ...
  • Shades of Blue, Kenn Lendings Blues Band, Blues Junction, Sko og Torp, The Fried Okra Band, Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado, Live Bleeding Fingers, Mojo Hands, Working Mojo, Bluespower, ...

Then there are all the many festivals (apart from the blues joints, the many local blues associations and individual concerts) like The Copenhagen Blues festival as the most prominent perhaps. Many other Danish bands and musicians have played and/or recorded blues from time to time (Poul Dissing, Bamse jørgensen m.fl.).

There is even articles up on "Danish Jazz" and "Danish rock", but nothing on the Blues-scene in Denmark.

Pop section is still an unstructured mess

There are around 10 artists seemingly randomly picked from a hat with no information as to why they're highlighted or their actual significance. I suggest making an actual list based on available chart data or combined views/album sales. Besides that, it reads like its written by a 7th grader, full of errors or non-appropriate-wikipedia language.
