NDP songs?
Shouldn't this be mentioned, especially the large collection of NDP songs built up over the years? -- Natalinasmpf 21:40, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, these should be mentioned. While I don't really enjoy singing them in school, I have to admit some songs are good. Even my Indonesian ex-classmate who used to joke about S'porean's "snobbishness" admires some of the songs. Hmm .... - I don't know what they are, but they sound probably relevant, judging from your question and Vsion's response. This article could use expansion in a whole lot of different directions. Tuf-Kat 22:11, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)
- Some of them are known as "theme songs" for the NDP, but collectivity, they can be called "national songs". Afterall, we can have only one theme song per year, and they were only writtern for this purpose since 1998. Structural problems
This article is definitely much needed, however, as defined by the introduction, there is only one kind of Singapore music, ie. in English. How about the musical scene in Mandarin (which is alive and kicking) and in Malay? Structural problems. Must be addressed. Mandel 16:26, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

- I found it strange that xinyao (in particular) is not included in this general article about Singapore music, especially since it is supposed to be an indigenous style. Phytomagus 05:41, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Suggestions to improve article
Some suggestions to improve this article - perhaps we can reference the current show on Channel U which walks through the development of music in Singapore from the 1920s? :) xinyao is definitely a very important part of Singapore music history just like Taiwan's school min'ge. Recent developments like Project SuperStar, Campus Superstar and SuperBands can be included. Speaking of competitions, popular competitions in the '80s like Dou Ge Jing Yi can be included also - but that'll require senior wikipedians who still have recollections of the programmes.

Very unbalanced
For some reason this page is so heavily skewed towards the metal and rock genres that it completely unbalanced. There was nothing about what is presumably most important and prominent music genre which is pop, so I added a section on that, but that still needed expanding considerably. Also there is very little on classical and folk music traditions. Someone also needs to trim the metal section. Hzh (talk) 13:19, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
