Translation of title[edit]

In the first sentence of the lede, "The monster sat next to me" is given as a "lit." translation of the title. This may be a good translation of the overall meaning, but it is not in any sense literal. Tonari literally means "adjacent position", no is a subordinating particle, kaibutsu is indeed "monster", and kun is an affectionate suffix used toward young people by intimates the same age or older. The title just can't be translated "literally" into English; the closest you could come would be some nonsense like "The monster-y of the next position". The title has no "me" in it, nor does it have any explicit reference to sitting.

Maybe all I'm saying is that the "lit." should be removed, but I hope somebody will have a better idea. ACW (talk) 04:44, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
