statue info[edit]

It is currently mentioned, without sources, in the Pequot Fort article that "A statue of Major John Mason, who together with 90 colonists and 100 Mohegan Indians burned to death 600 to 700 men, women and children of the warlike Pequot Indian Tribe in 1637, is situated at the base of Pequot Hill near the site where the massacre occurred. The statue has since been removed."

I assume the statue is the one described in general terms in the Mystic River HD nrhp nom document (which would also be a useful source for the Pequot Fort article). But it's news that the statue is no longer there. Is there any source available to document that? What happened to the statue? --doncram (talk) 16:03, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently the statue was removed in 1995 at the request of the Pequot tribe. The statue is now in Windsor at the ancestral home of John Mason. The removal was controversial and there are several news articles online about it. This might be a good hook for a DYK if this article is expanded. --Polaron | Talk 16:25, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thanks. I see there is mention and some links about from "Memorials" section of John Mason (c.1600–1672) article. I take it there is no separate article about the John Mason home property; it is not NRHP-listed is it? I am not finding any relevant entry under "Mason" in searching NRIS using Elkman's tools. If the statue and/or its current site is notable, could develop that and pair together with this Mystic River HD article for a double DYK, using a hook along lines you suggest. If statue and/or current site not notable, could still cover here and do DYK, sure, i agree. So either way, let me know, and I am inclined to proceed on developing for DYK. It would be nice to have some pics in this article, of course, if to get DYK attention. I think i might be able to locate at least a pic of Mystic Pizza and street in front. Also i noticed mention of HABS pic in this nrhp nom or another HD's nrhp nom today. Do u have any pics that u could add? --doncram (talk) 16:43, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Portersville[edit]

In trying to sort out a disambiguation page for Portersville I find there's a redirect Portersville, Connecticut to Mystic River Historic District, but no mention of it in this page. There's a one-sentence mention in Mystic,_Connecticut#18th_century which links to the redirect and thus to this page. If Portersville ought to be mentioned on this page, please could someone do so? Thanks. PamD 08:16, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
