Big Bay Sloop shipwreck[edit]

To the unregistered editor who keeps reverting my edits on this listing, please note:

  • The site's NRHP nomination form and NRIS listing shows clearly that the site is Address Restricted
  • The Wisconsin state registry does state that the shipwreck is 300 feet from the shore of Big Bay State Park. However, a location that can be presumed to be rounded to the nearest 100 feet from shore for a total width of 100 feet uncertainty from shore is not at all precise. Worse, the shore of the state park includes 1.5 miles of beach not counting rocky portions of the shoreline. There is nothing in that description to in any way suggest full disclosure of the location.
  • My purpose for adding the address restriction was to clean up the maintenance category Category:NRHP list missing coordinates. Unless you can provide a more specific location from an authoritative and responsible source that allows the shipwreck to be precisely located permitting geolocation, then please stop removing the "Address Restriction" text as this just kicks the page back into the maintenance category. The Wisconsin registry's general location is in no way so specific as to conflict with the NPS's restriction.

Its location is specified on the Wisconsin Historical Society website, so clearly the "address" is not restricted. It doesn't matter that the location isn't "precise". (Just what sort of address do you expect for a shipwreck?? 123 Deepsea Avenue?) It's still a location, irrespective of whether you can geolocate it. Your argument makes no sense whatsoever. And stop edit warring. 32.218.152.31 (talk) 07:40, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
A generalization (it is not specified!) per WHS of 100 ft. wide by at least 1.5 mi. long would include every commercial storefront and residential front door on the main street of many small towns. I expect a better "address" than that and not merely from my Yellow Pages listings or county tax office. Most of all, I want lat and long coordinates that specifically and verifiably pinpoint the location or a location descriptive enough to establish those coordinates. The NPS provides these coordinates for many shipwrecks. This is not one of them. They likely have their reasons such as preserving the site for ongoing research.
