What is the relevance of these paragraphs:

At the 228 Incident memorial the following day, Chen, having delivered to that point a conventional ceremonial speech in the Min Nan dialect local to Fujian and Taiwan, turned suddenly to Mandarin – spoken in both Taiwan and Mainland China – and repeatedly demanded of his audience: "Is A-bian wrong?" (A-Bian is Chen's Taiwanese nickname.)

He continued: "Is A-bian wrong in restoring the right to decide their future to the 23 million people of Taiwan?"^[1] The crowd answered "No!" and "Go A-bian!".
