High Commissioner[edit]

Current article says Pillay "signed" the Free and Equal document, more accurate would be that she signed the forward, no? Hakisalim (talk) 20:42, 17 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Untitled[edit]

2 things. 1) please read WP:VANDAL and comply with it 2) please read WP:BLP and comply with it.
If you have a reliable secondary source where Pillay has stated that she is a Hindu cite it. Until then I will continue to remove the information. As has been noted several times in my edit summaries, the source cited in Amazon was generated from Wikipedia itself when Wikipedia stated that she is a Hindu. There was no source to support that categorization. It's a self referential circular source. You can see the book generated from Wikipedia here. We must have secondary RS based on self declaration of religion for this kind of info. It is mandatory and non-negotiable. Please do not re-add the information without a reliable secondary source. I've reverted the latest unsourced claim to the article. No Need for Edit Warring[edit]

The Breitbart / Washington Times claim that Pillay condemned Israel and US for not providing Iron Dome to Gaza isn't backed by any credible source. Both sources have a conservative agenda and I'm not able to find non-conservative sources that support this claim. Associated Press[3] and other sources (e.g., [4]) cite Pillay condemning the US alone for providing funding for Israel's Iron Dome and adding that the Gazans did not get a similar system to protect them. One may say that such a claim is ridiculous on its own, but it's still short of the Onion-esqe claim that Breitbart attributes to Pillay. The article currently says she made a 'call for the US to fund a missile defence system', ABC's quote is 'Pillay also took aim at the U.S., Israel's main ally, for providing financial support for Israel's "Iron Dome" anti-rocket defense system. "No such protection has been provided to Gazans against the shelling," she said.' Either she was 'taking aim' because she objected to the US helping fund a defence of Israel's civilians, or she was 'taking aim' because she wanted to see Gazans provided for similarly, the latter is the more charitable interpretation - do you have another that fits the sense of the paragraph? Sure. It would help to look at the full quote, first of all.
She's addressing the US money that goes to Israel and, presumably, the lack of money that goes to Gaza. Basically, "the US sends Israel advanced weapons and technology to keep Israelis safe, but does nothing for the Gazans." Regardless of the truth of the matter, she isn't "calling" on the US to give Gaza an Iron Dome, but more broadly criticizing the disparity (in her mind or elsewhere) that she sees. -- Veggies (talk) 23:10, 10 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, the difficulty I see with that rather general sentiment is she does say quite specifically, 'no such protection' - implying Iron Dome or something pretty like Iron Dome itself has not been provided, and the provider she has in mind is clearly the US - who else?. I would accept it may be appropriate to change the wording of the first clause, to something like, 'After reviewing heavy US contribution to the Iron Dome program, her call for better defence for Gaza,"..."'. This seems to me to address your concern about painting her into an explicit corner, she has not specifically validated. Cpsoper (talk) 18:55, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A doubly referenced source for criticism has been removed without reason and restored. Article is outdated[edit]
