Discussion of copyright issues for article[edit]

damn how can ya forget the most important thing about netherton, the black country industries its famous for, christ !!

what the hell is going on, get a life!!!!!

thats origional research, you sound like dont know the place very well,

The article which you keep putting in is copyright material from another source.. Wikipedia's Policy is that we cannot cut and paste from other sources. You can link to it if you think it's very important, or put in a brief summary of the contents, but please don't put the whole article in again. Makemi 01:03, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

kaye but I think ya got the wrong end of the stick, its origonal research that they don't allow, other peoples research is fine if ya put who wrote it, most of the areticals on wikipedia are taken from webpages,

                                                                                   paul

Please look at this link. No, they don't like original research by contributors, whereas original research by dependable outside people is fine when well sourced, but simply copying and pasting anyone's work, unless your own, is unethical and illegal in most countries. okay sos, well I was in netherton a few weeks ago, we went to the black country museum, I think youve missed out the most important parts about netherton, you know its history as the black country town that produced the worlds largest chain and anchors, maybe yo could write somethin about that, you know the history of the place as the formor metalbashing capital of the world. Nethertons industry was really immpressive, and the place has an aura still, there was thick black smoke in peoples faces, charles dickens once described it like it was the gates of hell its self, men women and children would work down a pit, and rail roads would haul by the pits to collect the coal, you could hear the banging of the engines all day long, pumm pumm pumm, out side theres be so much smoke and furnaces burnin all day long, to me thats impressive, mens faces would be black with dirt thats why we call it the black country.

St Andrew's Church[edit]

I removed the reference to St Andrew's being the 'highest parish church in Worcestershire' because: (1) it is not in Worcestershire but in the Diocese of Worcester and (2) St Thomas in Dudley (also a parish church in the Diocese of Worcester) is, according to the Explorer OS map of the area (sheet 219), at a greater height above sea level (it's above the 200m contour). However, at 189m above sea level, St. Andrew's is definitely at the highest point in Netherton.

Origin of town name[edit]

'Lower farm' is one possible translation of 'Netherton' from Old English. The 'Nether' part has kept its meaning ie. 'lower'. The '-ton' ending is derived from the Old English 'tun'and can have a number of meanings, eg: a dwelling house, mansion, yard, farm, village, town, a plot of enclosed land etc. (see for example 'A compendious Anglo-saxon and English Dictionary,J. Bosworth, publ. John Russel Smith, London). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.208.10.141 (talk) 15:48, 7 August 2008 (UTC) The Dudley MBC website has preferred 'farm' so I have used it here. WHY WAS DARBY END NETHERTON ONCE CALLED DARBY HAND?[edit]

WHY WAS DARBY END NETHERTON ONCE CALLED DARBY HAND? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.150.205.231 (talk) 20:27, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if anyone knows for sure. It probably started out as 'Darby End' similar to 'Windmill End' and 'Baptist End' nearby. Almost certainly named after the Darby family. In the 19th century both Darby Hand and Darby End were in use. There are examples of both versions on the graves in St Andrews churchyard. I think all we can say for sure that the 'Darby Hand' version was very common locally in the 19th century.193.105.48.21 (talk) 09:56, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
