The following coordinate fixes are needed for

I've tweaked the coordinates in the article a bit so that they correspond to those given in the place's GNIS entry. If you're reporting some other "error", you'll need to give a clear explanation of what it is. Deor (talk) 16:43, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Agree, the information from GNIS #1095856 is what should be used in the article. • SbmeirowTalk • 21:06, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Mayor in the news[edit]

The current comment that the mayor was at the January 6th rally is accurate and sourced, but I don't think his attendance is noteworthy enough to include here. There's no real evidence that he was anything more than an attendee, maybe minor trespassing outside the Capitol building (not sure if that's so) and this article isn't about him but about the town. I think this comment should be removed.

I Agree that Brian Hobbs in Not Notable for being at the Capital Building on January 6, 2021[edit]

I agree with the above Wikipedian that the selection of Hibbs as a notable resident of Newkirk Oklahoma is wrong. There is absolutely nothing notable about Brian Hibbs.

First some history. I noticed today that someone had deleted the recent wikipedia contribution that Newkirk Mayor Brian Hobbs was present on January 6, 2021 at a violent insurrection at the United States Capitol that led the death of 5 people and that he should appear under notable residents of Newkirk. Here is what was deleted.

Mayor Brian Hobbs was present on January 6, 2021 at a violent insurrection at the United States Capitol that led the death of 5 people, including a police officer. According to an article in the Tulsa World, Hobbs was reported to have been with another Oklahoma man near the top of the Capitol’s west steps about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday when officers in riot gear started moving to clear out the thousands of people who had gathered[1]

Whoever has deleted this paragraph from the list of notable Newkirk residents has made the right decision.

The only thing that I find notable in Hobbs' attendance or particulation is that Hibbs is an elected official and, as far as I can tell, Hibbs is one of only a very few elected officials to be at the capital building after the Trump speech. In fact, West Virginia Delegate Derrick Evans is the only other example I could find of an elected official at the capital building and Evans was recently forced to resign from the West Virginia House of Delegates as a result of his participation. Does anyone know of any other elected officials that were there at the capital building

For the present, I have no problem with what you say, but if the mayor is arrested for his part in the insurrection then it becomes notable and worthy of inclusion in the article.Smallchief (talk) 21:48, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
