Citizens of Note[edit]

Re Citizens of Note: Country Music Star Alan Jackson is a Newnan native. Also Doug Stone (less well known than Alan Jackson) another country singer has a Newnan, Coweta County connection.

Charles Wadsworth,a well-known classical musician, hails from Newnan as well. Wadsworth Auditorium in downtown Newnan is named for Mr. Wadsworth. Charles Wadsworth founded and was Artistic Director of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, which he led for 20 seasons. He was accompanist to Beverly Sills during her long opera career. Since the early 90s, Charles Wadsworth has returned to Newnan and played a benefit concert in the restored Wadsworth Auditorium. Mr. Wadsworth brings with him up and coming stars in the clssical music world.

Opera singer Courtney "Becky" Budd is also a Newnan native.

I personally see no problem with including Lewis Grizzard and for that matter Erskine Caldwell in the Newnan, Georgia article. Moreland is in Coweta County and a short distance from Newnan. Grizzard once worked at the then Newnan Times Herald and graduated from Newnan HS.

For those that do not know, Grizzard was originally a sports writer and later a nationally syndicated columnist and humorist that was much beloved in these parts. 72.15.74.182 John Thrasher, Newnan 72.15.74.182 00:39, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If Grizzard is relatively an unknown to most it would be a good idea to have more back-up (is he listed on the Net anywhere?) as to why he is a note-worthy citizen otherwise sooner or later someone will remove the name. Soapy 03:33, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re "Citizens of Note:" Is "Travis Owen" an actual famous person? 24.178.126.182 15:38, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Travis Owen. I Googled "Travis Owen" and Newnan, and the first result to come up is this Wikipedia article; there are other results but nothing that places him on the same plane as the others listed here. If there is no objection I'd like to delete this name from the list. 24.178.126.182 21:47, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Re: Travis Owen. I see someone has gone ahead and deleted the listing. Thanks.
RE: Travis Owen is a prominent short story writer in the Midwest, specializing in tales of inter-racial romance.
Do you know of any connection between that Travis Owen and Newnan, Georgia? I found indications there is a Travis Owen who recently graduated from UWG, which has a center in Newnan, but that's all. I'd be surprised if they're the same person. McGehee 01:17, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can we agree that when someone is added to this section, there should be some kind of associated link? Obviously not everyone who's considered noteworthy from Newnan is going to have a Wikipedia article but how about something under external links about, say, the "inventor of the doggy bathroom"? I'm inclined to agree. Any objections to removing this one? McGehee 03:59, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Erskine Caldwell: In looking at the Wikipedia entry for Caldwell I don't see an actual connection between him and Newnan, per se. I've already added a "Citizens of Note" heading on the Moreland, Georgia page with Caldwell and Lewis Grizzard on it; I'll be removing Caldwell from the Newnan article but leaving Grizzard since Grizzard wrote for the Newnan newspaper for a time. I see that Caldwell has been added again. I ask that whoever did this consider adding some kind of information to the Erskine Caldwell page detailing what connection there is between him and NEWNAN, which is NOT THE SAME as Coweta County, Georgia or Moreland, Georgia. Meanwhile, I'm removing Caldwell from the list again. McGehee 18:25, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sprayberry's Bar B Que[edit]

The original location on Jackson Street has been there since 1927 and widely known way, way beyond Newnan for good food. ! (We ate there 20 years on going to Atlanta and always stopping by.)
