Reply 26-FEB-2018[edit]

There are several issues with this request and the article in general.

  1. Much of the text proposed to be added is insufficiently paraphrased from the source material, which is the Fellowship's own website. Wikipedia should not become just an extension of the Fellowship's website in order to spread the word of its scholastic opportunities, per: the guidance suggestions at WP:NOBLECAUSE (see also WP:PARAPHRASE).
  2. The claims made on the Fellowship's website, and contained in the request proposal, lay out in great detail the opportunities, requirements and deadlines for applicants. These claims may be true according to the Fellowship — but merely being true, or even verifiable, does not automatically make something suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia.[1] Articles should not become a complete exposition of all possible details, but rather, a summary of accepted knowledge regarding their subjects.[2] By including these details, the article gives undue weight to them and their significance. An article should not give undue weight to minor aspects of its subject, but should strive to treat each aspect with a weight proportional to its treatment in the body of reliable, published material on the subject. For example, discussions of isolated Fellowship events, requirements, or opportunities regarding the Fellowship may be verifiable and impartial, but still disproportionate to their overall significance to the article topic (see WP:BALASP and WP:PROPORTION for more information).
  3. What the article ought to have is information concerning its long history, including those notable figures in the past who have benefitted from the Fellowship. These claims, sure to be found in reliable, third-party sources, should be brought to the article for incorporation. Information about the current running of the Fellowship and its requirements, benefits and/or deadlines are best left to the Fellowship's own website (for which, a link in the article is already given) and not Wikipedia.

I will leave this template open for the next 48 hours to garner any additional input, opinions or suggestions from other editors who may wish to do so.

Thank you for your explanation. I agree we shouldn't add too much information or replicate what is already in the official websites. We’re concerned that people will look to Wikipedia for information on the scheme and as it is currently it includes incorrect information, which we’d like to see corrected. If it can’t be corrected, then would it be possible to have it removed, please.

Of particular concern are the sections on - the Alumni programme, which runs only for FIVE years and not ten - the success rate, which is NOT 1 % for those who apply directly from graduate school - please delete - (competition criteria) Applicants must not have held more than two postdoctoral positions - INCORRECT, please delete
